My 9 y/o is been sick since Friday, (cough and 103 F. fever, she's in antibiotics since then, fever never went down with motrin and tylenol even this morning fever was 102. Now is been more than 8 hours without fever , and tomorrow is going to be in the 20s. Yes ( supercold) so we talked before getting her to sleep and we agreed that if she wakes up without fever she's going back to school, but I just check the weather an didn't see that one coming, do you think is ok to send her if she's better ? She's still coughing :(

What can I do next?

Most schools have a 24 hour no fever policy. That means, no fever without medicine...not a fever suppressed by medication. I'm sorry, but your daughter should not go to school tomorrow. She is not "better" she had a 102 fever with medication, for goodness sakes. She needs to stay home, no matter what.

Consult your school's handbook or call the school tomorrow. They will certainly not want her there.

To go back to school a child has to be Fever free for at least 24 hours.

I personally would not send her back to school yet.
Nor tomorrow.

Did she or does she, have Pneumonia????

Tylenol or Motrin, does NOT CURE an illness or a fever.
IF a person is still sick and ill, the Fever will return.
Tylenol or Motrin is only temporary and only to lessen discomfort.
And it should not be used to keep a fever lower, to go to school, when a child is still sick.
She may get sent back home.

Your daughter is STILL sick, and she can get a relapse too, if not better yet.

She should NOT be going back to school, and if she does not get better, even with the antibiotics, then you need to take her back to the Doctor for a follow-up.

Her fever was 102 this morning. It won't be 24 hours fever free tomorrow morning. So she should stay home. Another way to look at it. She's been fever free for 8 hours. Will it be 24 hours in the morning? And was she fever free without taking meds?

I suggest that the outside temperature has nothing to do with whether or not a child goes to school. The weather does not make a child sick.

Fevers usually are normal when children wake, and then rise if they are going to to as the day goes on. I always went by the rule of 24 hour symptom free before sending my children back to school. I apply the same rule at my childcare center.

I'd keep her home if it were me (I didn't read the other remarks yet, so I don't know what others are recommending.) She was mighty sick, and I'd be worried to take her out so quickly into that kind of cold.

Oh! I just saw from the others that she won't be fever free for 24 hours by the time she goes to school. (I didn't count!) No, don't send her. She is still contagious, at the very least. And you don't know that the fever won't spike again.

Good luck and hope she feels a lot better soon!

She should be fever free without medication(no tylenol/motrin etc) for at least 24 hours. I would definitely wait a few more days---If she were my daughter, i wouldn't send her until at least Weds. Give her a few more days of rest. The worst would be to send her in that really, really cold weather and have her not only be miserable, but get much sicker--stay home longer and could get another infection on top of the one she has. Better to rest a few more days even if she is fever free and then send her back when she is much closer to 100%.

She has to be a MINIMUM of 24 hours fever free without the aid of medication such as Tylenol or Advil/Motrin as well as vomit and diarrhea free before going back to school. Even if tomorrow she's fever free for the 24 hours, though, I wouldn't send her. She could easily relapse and will need the rest. You very well could get a call from the school nurse to come get her because her fever spiked.

I wouldn't send her back. Beyond the being fever free for 24 hours without medications doing it for you. If she's still not feeling well she's not going to learn anything and could end up disrupting the class if she's still coughing a lot. Wait until she's had a day or two of actually being well before sending her to school so she can rest and rebuild her strength after being so sick.
