My wedding band gets unbearably tight in the summer months with the humidity. It is tight in the winter too just a little less so. I would light to make my band larger so that it is more comfortable all year round. It is platinum with diamonds on the top half. It is very thick and heavy. Have any of you had your rings enlarged? If so, how did they do it? In particular, I am looking for moms who have platinum channel settings since I heard different metals and settings require different techniques. BTW, it's not because I got fat. LOL!!
I had my platinum engagement ring resized and it was fine. It's a plain band, so it may have been easier as a result, but it wasn't overly pricey and they had my rings for a couple of days. My uncle is our jeweler and when we bought my wedding band, he insisted that we not have diamonds on the bottom for this very reason! According to him, as long as there are no stones on the bottom, the ring can be resized.
I have a platinum ring similar sounding to yours. Diamonds around the top half. I've had it resized by the jewelry store it was bough from and you can't even tell. Just make sure you take it to a real jeweler
Many years ago I was debating to have my platinum ring enlarged too. My husband got it from Tiffany's and they said it wouldn't be a problem, it's pretty standard to do this on any type of ring.
A goldsmith would cut the ring at the backside of the shank,add more metal and reheat/solder your ring. It looks HORRIBLE when it's being done but once it's done it's SO worth it.
I had my wedding set resized twice and worked for the goldsmith so I saw my poor ring all black and sad looking until it got buffed and steam cleaned. Sometimes it's BETTER not to know what actually happens in the process. LOL
Mine sounds similar and was no issue for the jeweler. I think they just add metal to the back of the band (where it rests on the inside of your hand) and don't touch the setting.
