since sunday night, my 18m old has had a flemy cough, running nose and a slight fever (slight, meaning 100.4 and below, now he is 99.3). today he only has the nose problem and cough but now when he coughs, I'm worried that his throat is getting really sore and scratchy. plus, I'd like to know how to get rid of this sickness from my son. this is the longest he's been sick since he was born and I just feel aweful... also I'd like to go back to our regular sleeping schedule.

p.s. I would call his PED but I really can't stand that women..(we just don't see eye to eye and she is rude) and there will be no one there because the office is closed. I also put nose drops for congestion but that didn't seem to work :/

thanks ladies & gents

NO sugar. Sugar competes for binding site on cells (and wins) with vitamin C and allows the illness to last longer.

We use Herbal throat Spray from Standard Process or Herbs for Kids Throat Spray that probably tastes better than the SP, but contains peppermint and my kids hate mint....of any kind. I have adults swear by the SP throat spray, as it helps immediately and full of nutrients rather than crud like the OTC numbing sprays.

It sounds like just a common cold; unfortunatley there's no way to "cure" it, just do what you've been doing to help relieve the symptoms until it's run it's course. If his temp goes over 103 and/or the cough gets worse, then you need to see a dr. Speaking of that -- get a new pediatrition!!! There's no reason you have to continue to go to a dr you don't like. Ask your friends and neighbors which ped they use/used. When you find one, they should have a form you sign to request the records from your current ped.
Hope your little one feels better soon.

Put honey in warm water. Also, put vick's on his chest and feet (I know, the foot thing sounds weird, but the nurses swear by it and it works). If you don't have a cool mist humidifier in the room already, that helps a lot, too. Hope your little one feels better soon!

Infant Tylenol always works for us. It reduces swelling, which is what makes a sore throat so painful. Sorry your little one is sick. =(

Well, when I get a sore throat, I take some tylenol. Why not give him some? (Infants, and you can ask a pharmacist for the dosage.)

Popcicles & ice are great for kids to soothe their little throats. I'd give him some and just let him go to town. Honey works wonders too.

Give him a teaspoon of honey and use a humidifier or get a super-steamy shower running and take him in there. Give him infant ibuprofen. Above all -get a new pediatrician! There's no way I would use one I couldn't stand or who was rude to me.

***The Vick's on the feet/heels DOES work -I totally agree! Sounds like some nutty thing, but there is a noticeable difference in my children's coughs when I do that.
