I had what looked and felt like pink eye from my allergies. All it took was eye drops and it was gone the next day.

If it was pink eye, it would have responded to drops by now. Go back to your doctor or, even better, go to an eye doctor.

If it was pink eye it would be goopy or at least mine was. After the drops it cleared up with in 48 hours. However, if it is pink eye make sure to put the med into both eyes to help prevent it from spreading.

Take your son to an eye doctor. MD's do not know that much about eyes. Two years ago my daughter had what we thought was pink eye, but no discharge. The MD thought maybe allergies and prescribed allergy eye drops. No improvement. We then went to the eye doctor and he detected iritis and referred us to an ophthalmologists. The ophthalmologist prescribed steroid drops and we treated her eye with those for almost a year. She was also experiencing severe headaches (mostly during the night) and complained of eye pain. The ophthalmologist and optometrist both said that iritis often is a sign of juvenile rheumatoid arthritis, or other auto immune diseases. It also can be a side effect of Lyme disease. They never could figure out what caused my daughters iritis. Very uncommon, but she had it in both eyes. We were told that once someone has had it, it can return. Luckily for us, this hasn't happened. Not all optometrists can diagnose this easily, but if they suspect iritis, they should refer you to an ophthalmologist ASAP. Iritis is nothing to mess with.

My son's left eye swelled up shut minutes after petting the sheep and goats at the zoo. First aid took a look and applied ice. There were no other signs of allergies (sneezing, runny nose, hives, etc), so they held off before giving Benedryl. Within 10mins the swelling was gone, and we found a 1/2" long cut on the tip of his lower lid (maybe from wool, or rubbing the wool?). As the cut is healing, every time he rubs his eye it gets super swollen, but then goes down again about 15mins after he rubs it. This has gone on for 3 days and its almost healed. I would have an eye doctor look at your son. Good luck!

Well my son had a red eye, no discharge.
It was Conjunctivitis, per his situation.
The eye drops did help.
By the next day, his eye was getting better.

So yes, take your son to the Doctor or eye Doctor, maybe he has a scratch.

Does it hurt???

hm the dr really should have looked at the eye before precribing drops. usually with pink eye, there's drainage but not always. plus you should have at least seen improvement by now. maybe take him to an eye doctor?

Your antibiotics drops should clear up the "red" within 2 days - but only if the infection is bacterial. If your son has the viral version, the drops won't do any good. :( It will just have to run its course, and the likelihood of re-infection is pretty good. Sorry! Hoping it's a healing scratch - pinkeye is such a drag. If you have sterile saline, you can "flush" the eye to speed the healing process.
