My 18 month old boy's left cheek flares up in a sniny rash seemingly randomly. I've tried to narrow it down, and I think it may be from Chef Boyardee from a can. Has anyone else had something like this in their children? Our peditrician doesn't seem to worry about it (or doesn't have any idea).
Is it eczema? My son had that really bad and the only thing that cleared his face was Renew lotion, I get it from a membership store and it has not been back since we started using on him almost 3 years ago. If you would like more info please contact me.

Yes, my daughter used to get a rash like that on both of her cheeks. She still does occasionally. Our doctor too, didn't seem very worried about it. Just like you, I narrowed it down to certain things. For her it was mustard and spaghetti. I think that those things are just really acidic. Now I am just careful to wipe her face clean right away whenever she eats anything acidic. Sometimes if I notice she's got a lot on her face, I even wipe her up throughout her meal. It doesn't happen as often now. :) Hopefully you can pin point it well enough to get a handle on it. :)

If it's not an allergic reaction, it might be eczyma. My original pediatrician thought the patches on my son's face was an allergic reaction to laundry detergent. After I switched pediatricians, they said it was eczyma and to use hydracortizone. It's prescribed but only 1% whereas regular cortizone is 0.5%. Even if it's not eczyma (I always forget how to spell this word correctly), the hydracortizone will not hurt your son's skin.
On another note, my husband got patches on his cheeks as a young infant due to all the germs from people kissing him. Of course, he was also only 3 months old. You never know!

I know when my kids where that age, anytime they ate anything with tomato sauce and it got on their little cheeks, they developed a little rash there. The acidity of the tomato sauce caused their tender skin to flare up. I just tried to wipe it off as soon as possible to help keep the irritation down. I hope that helps. Good luck.
My 3 year old has that problem, but his comes from when he gets too hot. He gets red splotches, almost like hives, on his face, chest and back. Our pediatrician told us that it is excercise induced exzema (sp?). When it happens, we are too put a cool rag on him, get him cooled down, and if it still there after 20 mins, use hydrocortizone or benedryl.
hi, when my daughter was that age she couldn't eat anything with tomato based sauce in it ie: spaghetti, ravioli, etc. we just stayed away from it until she was about 2 or so and then introduced things gradually. she eventually outgrew it. our dr said that the high amount of acid in tomatoes just caused an allergic reaction in her skin, probably due to the fact she was so young and her skin was so sensitive. she was able to eat those type of things around age 3.

My daughter went through something similar and still does occasionally. She would get little tiny red bumps all around her mouth and cheeks. It would happen when she would eat goldfish crackers, any type of red sauce and ketchup and I am sure some other things. It seemed to be worse when she was between 1 and 2 years old(she is 2 1/2 now). The doctors coudldn't figure it out and it didn't bother my daughter at all. We think it had something to do with onion powder. Not saying that is for sure what it was but we cut everything out of her diet that contained anything with onion powder or onion spices and it got better. We still don't let her have too much, just in case. She has sensitive skin too so that might have something to do with those foods and contact with their skin.

My son gets this occasionally and I use aveeno on his cheek and it eventually goes away.
My 16 month daughter gets the same thing ang I got the same answers from my doctor. I have tried everything! I wish I had some answers but I am out of ideas. If anyone gives you any good advice please pass it along to me! Thanks so much!

My daughter used to get red bumps and her cheeks would get red after she had anything with tomatoes. Ketchup was the worst for her and she loves it. she did out grow it. she had that about the same age as ur son and she is now 4. she hasnt has a problem. my mom also told me that my older sister had the same problem when she was younger.
