Rectal Bleeding. Sorry Gross....

Hi Moms,
This question is about me. I have had rectal bleeding after I go #2 for a few days and it is getting worse. I do eat a lot of fiber and I am not straining, it's to the point that the toilet is bright red and when I wiped last time, no poo, just a slimy tissue clot looking thing. Sorry this is gross, but I am not sure if I should worry or what. It's Saturday and I really don't want to freak about it but I have been tired today and feeling crappy. I figure maybe my Lupus has caused some inflammation?
Thanks.

What can I do next?

You desperately need to get to a gastroenterologist and have a colonoscopy done. Call on Monday morning and ask for an emergency appointment.

I am so sorry you are going through this. I don't know anything about lupus, but what you are describing sounds like cancer. Please go get evaluated.

I just responded to you and it went into cyberspace....I hate that....

So, if I recall what I wrote...it is my understanding that people with Lupus can develop rectal bleeding due to the muscle tissues being damaged by the antibodies.

If this is the first time you have ever experienced this, than you should contact your doctor who regularly follows you, to report what it happening.

Next time you 'go', take a picture of how much blood and what other slimy things exit. Honestly, the medical staff will not be grossed out and it will facilitate them treating you efficiently.

This site explains the many symptoms, of which you are probably aware.

I would go to the doctor immediately. At first I thought hemmorhoids (sp) but with a whole toilet full of blood? No way, I'd get in there fast, especially with how your described your used toilet paper too, and how crappy you are feeling. Hope everything turns out OK.

Sounds serious. I would at least call your doctor's office and speak with the doc or nurse on call. Since you have had it for a few days, no wonder you are feeling tired and crappy. I know nothing about lupus but blood in stool is often a sign of polyps or colon cancer.
Go see a doctor ASAP.

HI. I don't know anything about Lupus, but I have experienced rectal bleeding before. Never to the extent that you are describing however. I went to see a gastroenterologist, had some test done and everything was fine. You can have internal hemroids (SP) that can cause bleeding when they slough off. It's gross, but not that uncommon.
Regardless you should call your doctor on Monday. If you are really concerned, Most Doctors have a call service, tell them what is going on and they will call your Doctor. He/She will then call and let you know what you should do. This is easier than traveling to the ER, if its not really needed.

Good Luck.

Sorry for the late response but I do hope you go get it checked out and keep us posted. I realize your situation with Lupus may present special circumstances but I wanted you to know it is important not to blow this off.

I had the same issue with surprise bleeding for awhile and finally went to see my primary doctor. She said it is probably nothing but sent me to a gastro DR to be sure. He said it was nothing but just to be sure we did a colonoscopy and found 2 growths which were precancerous going to cancer. I forget the technical name but basically they are the kind that grow into colon cancer if left unchecked. I was 36 when he found them. I had the colonoscopy Friday morning and the Dr called me personally over the weekend to tell me he rushed the labs and found that they hadn't grown to cancer yet. I don't think it was until that call I realized how serious this could have been. He said I was his "once is a blue moon" patient that was too young, no family history, no reason to have these. Yet if he hadn't removed them it was virtually guaranteed I would havebeen dead in 2 years. Thank God I showed symptoms and checked it out. Most people with colon cancer show no symptoms at all.

Not trying to scare you but really, please check it out. A colonoscopy is SO easy, so simple of a procedure and it really does save lives. I had 4 in the first year after we found those growths, 3 the second year and am now down to 1 time every 2 years. Each time there are growths, but they take them out and then we do it again in 2 years. Please check it out. Good luck.

No, you don't have to worry necessarily, but you need to make an appointment and have a colonoscopy, just to be sure, right away.

Sounds like hemorrhoids...rectal bleeding CAN be serious...especially if the hemorrhoid breaks...

I would call my doctor Monday AM and get checked out. They may have to do a colonoscopy to see what is going on.

If the bleeding does NOT stop - or if you bleed other than going to the bathroom, please go to the urgent care.

Good luck!! I hope it's just a hemorrhoid.

Are you gluten intolerant? Celiac disease can cause this.

And yes, it can just all of a sudden pop up. My sister went through this. FYI, just a little blood looks a lot worse than it really is, so do not freak out. It is when the blood is coming out without you being on the potty, that you really have to worry about it.
