My son wants a robot for his 6th birthday, but we told him that we already bought his birthday presents so he'll have to ask Santa. Looking for something durable enough to withstand his 3 year old godzilla-like brother, but not too babyish.
Edit - I want it to look like a robot so not Stinky the garbage truck. I'll check out the other recommends.

Something else that is fun/cool: "HexBugs." My son and daughter like those. It is a micro bug robot.
Look at Amazon for it and just to read the reviews.

Also if you just do a search on Amazon for "robots" many will come up and you can read the reviews there of the products.

Most of the stores have robots for varying ages, from sophisticated science projects to simple RC toys for very young kids. Not sure what you wanted, so I posted search pages so you can see the variety. My son got his first robotics set when he was about 6 and was ready for it. He built one with his dad and still loves the thing. We just kept it away from the toddlers:

Do not buy Stinky the garbage truck. My 3 yr old got so bored with it I think a 6 yr old would get bored within 5 minutes.

My son LOVES robots (he's 3.5) and I could tell you all the robot movies out there, but don't know about all the toys. But I do think that those HEX bugs look pretty cool. Some have remotes. Some just turn on/off. It'd be easy to get him 2 or 3 of those, then tell Grandma and Grandpa to get him one or get him a home for them ........ start a collection.
