Hi moms! I am looking for a really good auto bottle warmer. I've bought the munchkins deluxe bottle warmer. DOES NOT WORK AT ALL EVEN THOUGH I HAD IT PLUG IN FOR 30MIN. The wrap is warm so i know it is not a defective part but my bottle is still cold. We are going away on a vacation for a week, so in case we don't have access to hot water immediately, i would like to have it just in case on hand. They said it takes only 5mins to warm up..Do you have a favorite or know of a good one that really works? Thanks in advance.

So What Happened?

Thanks for all your responses! I ended up returning the auto warmer. We just heated up the water in the microwave and warm the bottle in the hot water. At least they have a microwave in the hotel room which helps alot! We had a great time in HI.

I have had 2 different types (can't remember the names...sorry!) and I found that everntually they DO heat the bottle up, but its not instant...and usually you don't think to make the bottle until little one wants it, like now! So my suggestion is think ahead and start warming it early. We found that it would take 20-30 min of driving with it on to heat the bottle. A thermos works well though too (which I see many other requests mentioning) Good luck!

Has your one year old started drinking cold milk from a sippy cup? I think warm milk is great to help induce sleepiness, but not really necessary at this age for nutrition or hydration, cold or room temp works well. The important thing when on vacation is to keep the milk cold enough so it is safe to drink.

Sorry I do not have any info on car warmers, but in a pinch, you might try bringing a thermos of hot water from a restaurant, motel or other place hot water can be obtained. This can be put in a larger container and the bottle placed into it to quickly warm. The water might even be put back into the thermos for later after the bottle gets warm. If containers are large enough, and care is taken not to spill, it should work to make everything warm and cozy..Have fun on your vacation!!

We also just put the bottle in a large cup of hot tap water and let it sit there for about 5 minutes or so. We learned this from the NICU when my twins were in there for a few weeks. That is how the nurses warmed the bottles. As they got older I would also just take the bottles out of the fridge and let them sit until they got to room temp...worked great for us and we never had any problems with it.

Hi C.,

We use the Phillips Avent and it has worked like a charm for over 18 months. Good luck!

After discovering that the bottle warmer we had bought didn't work as well, we too took the thermos route as another poster mentioned below.

We carried a big thermos with hot water. A few minutes in the water was all it took to get the bottle ready for DS.
It was also easy to refill the thermos on our road trip.

C.,

Not sure if you are warming Breast Milk, formula or milk... if warming BM I agree with the others- go the thermos route- I never had good luck with the bottle warmers- if you are warming formula- what worked for me was to not premake the bottle- but take hot water along in the thermos and mix hot with a room temp bottled water- was faster in the long run then trying to warm a bottle. Don't have any advise for milk- only gave my daughter cold or room temp milk in sippy...

This may not help, but never used a bottle warmer. We would run hot tap water, put it in a glass and the float the bottle in it for about 3 minutes (lid off the bottle). Worked for us. Once she was about 3 months old she didn't mind it cold.
Best of luck,
C.

I echo the idea of using a thermos of water. Get a good steel lined thermos rather than the glass lined one. I believe you can get one for about twenty dollars and though I'm not familiar with the auto warmers, my guess is they will run about that much too. When you are stopped either at a motel or at a restaurant, be sure the thermos is filled with very hot water (this will assure that the water will be hot enough even if it is a few hours before you need to use it). Have a good tip-resistant container to pour some water into and put the bottle in there to warm it. At one year of age, your son doesn't need the milk to be very warm so the water will take enough chill off to make it work for him.
