Hi girls, we need to buy a new baby monitor and I was just curious if you have any recommendations for a good one. We currently have a basic Graco iMonitor Digital that is on its last legs. We were not terribly impressed with this monitor but at the time it was cheap and one of the only monitors at Walmart. We hope to spend less than $100 for it. Thank you!

I would definitely recommend the Sony. The link is:

The price is very reasonable - $45.00. We originally bought a different one, a more expensive "HD" one, I think from Safety First. But there was a constant hum and lots of static and ended up returning it. I learned that for an electronics type of product, it's best to use Sony or an electronics company rather than a child product brand. The Sony has a great feature that I didn't see on any other monitor, where you can put it on "Voice Activation Mode", which is really nice. So you don't hear anything unless there's noise from the baby's room, so there's no background hum. (There is the other mode of just regular so that you hear everything in the baby's room). Most of my friends also went with the Sony and no complaints! good luck!

We also have a summer model video monitor, but ours is over 4 years old now and still works and we still use it. It was amazing when I didnt want tot go in the room (CIO) but I could see she was still fine. Now I can see what she is up to in there when she plays. I hope they have a model for the teen years. ;)

We couldn't sleep without our Summer Infant Day & Night Handheld Color Video Monitor! http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2265802 It was a little more expensive than the audio monitors, but worth every penny! Our son is a light sleeper, so being able to hear & see him breathe made it possible to check on him without waking him up. The clarity is amazing for the price. The camera & monitor are lightweight & small so it's easily portable to take with us on vacations, over-night visits, camping trips (in a travel-trailer), etc. And now that our son is mobile, we are able to see what he's up to, or why it suddenly got quiet, without letting him knowing Mom & Dad are watching. It can be pretty entertaining too!

My biggest recommendation to all new moms-to-be is to invest in a video baby monitor. We have one by Summer Infant & it's not super but it works & has come in handy for the last 2 1/2 years. It helps us know if our son is crying while asleep or if he's up & needs us. Lately, it's been wonderful for letting us know if he's gotten out of bed when he should be sleeping. It's more than $100 but well worth it!

I concur about the Sony monitor. Have used it for almost 2 years and have no complaints. Plus, it has 27 channels so you have less likelihood of interference. And for $45.00, the price is right. Hope this helps!

I would recommend that you NOT use a baby monitor at all. Most people don't realize that they emit a strong electromagnetic field, which can be harmful to not only sleep patterns, but also to developing brains. Electromagnetic fields are an emerging danger in our health and we are only just starting to realize the dangers of things like cell phones, cordless phones, wireless computer components, anything that emits a signal. Baby monitors are also a pretty strong EMF emitter. The signals they send out are the same signals our cells use to talk to each other and you can only imagine the problems that can arise if those signals are confused with an outside source. Brain cancer is quickly overtaking cancer as the #1 killer of children due to cell phones and towers and all the multiple sources of EMF we now use on a daily basis. Bed side clocks that plug in are surprisingly strong, as are electric blankets. I would encourage you to google electromagnetic field dangers for yourself and arm yourself with the small things we can do to protect ourselves as much as we can from them in the steadily emerging wireless world. The most important being keep your cell phone off and far away from you baby and the if you cant live without your cordless phone, at least find a 9mhz model that only emits a signal when it is in use, not constantly like all the new ones with the 4, 5, or more gigahertz. rite aid sells them cheap. Good luck and good health to you.

I vote for the Sony as well.

The receiver runs on a rechargeable battery and has a good enough range that I can take it outside when doing yard work. It also has a noise reduction mode that filters out room noise so that you only hear when there's a big change in sound levels (like when Baby cries or talks).

We love love love the AngelCare!
It has a pad that alarms if breathing is not detected. We didn't use this as we have triplets but I have friends that have and like that feature a lot.
It also alarms if the temp in their room gets too warm or too cold. It went off on us both ways, we lost power in Jan. and it woke us up letting us know the babies room was below 60. Then one night my hubby bumped into the thermostat without knowing a couple hours later the monitor started going crazy and we woke up to it telling us it was 87 in their room.

I think ours is the fisher price dual privacy monitor. If I were buying a new one today, I would probably look at getting one of the video ones, but they're pretty expensive. I do like ours and really appreciate that there are two monitors that work with the one reciever since we utilize that a lot. It's nicer than having to remember to grab the monitor when going up or downstairs or inside/outside. We have a lot of other kids in the houses around us and have never picked up each other's monitors in the last 22 months.
