Recommendations for a Good Tooth Whitener Needed!

I am looking for a tooth whitener that really works! I have never tried any of the OTC products like Crest Whitestrips. I just brush with Crest or Colgate whitening toothpaste, use baking soda and peroxide. I drink tea almost daily so I think my teeth are tea stained! I can't afford to have them professionally bleached, so I would like to hear what products have worked well for other Mamas! Thanks!

What can I do next?

Hi A.-
I like the crest whitestrips classic - they're cheaper than the newer ones, more comfortable, and I think they work better on me. I use them every 6-9 months, and usually just do once a day since I forget the second time, and that doesn't seem to matter. Just a precaution though: at least initially, especially if you do them twice a day, it can make your teeth sensitive. You can maybe get some Sensodyne or some other sensitive toothpaste to help with that, but it lasts usually just maybe the first 2-5 days, then goes back to normal. Good luck!

I haven't tried this, but a friend does and she has beautiful white teeth and drinks tea and coffee all the time.
She rinses her mouth with peroxide after each brushing.

Good Morning A., Sorry I am backed up today....lol Meaning I am s-l-o-w-e-r, then normal. I am a coffee drinker, tea, Kool-aide also. I tried the Crest & Colgate toothpaste whiteners. Was ok, but not great. Only thing I use now is straight Peroxide as a pre-rinse. I just use it like you would a gargle except I just swish it around for about a minute or so, then brush as normal. I do use a battery operated tooth brush also. My teeth are alot whiter just using this method. Sorry will sound gross but when you spit the peroxide out, it will be a tan or brown color of the tea or coffee stain. It has even helped lighten stains on my crown edges at gum line.

God Bless hope this will help you some, sure not expensive.

Hi A.,
I have used the crest white strips. people say it's inconvenient. Not really, just do it when you have 30 minutes of down town. When you use them, don't just have brushed your teeth. I used them and they did wonders! I had done it over Christmas break when I was in college and I had so many people comment me on my teeth. One girl I kinda knew couldn't remember my name so she kept calling me pretty teeth girl. I thought it was cute. Anyway, i had great results with that. I had also tried using the over night paste that you brush on your teeth. It worked but if when you're applying it and your tooth is wet, even the slightest bit, it won't adhere very well. and if you sleep with your mouth closed all the saliva that collects in your mouth and sometimes remove the paste. I hope you find what works best for you!

I used the Crest whitening strips. You put them on once in the morning and once in the afternoon for about 15 minutes if I remember correctly. I was pleased with the results. Good luck! :)

A., I don't have any advice for an OTC tooth whitener but I wll say that drinking from a straw keeps the beverage away from your teeth...I know this is not much help if it is "hot tea" you are refering to...but it works ok with cold beverages. Lots of luck

My Dentist recommends Crest Whitestrips and says they are the best thing on the market. I used them after I got my braces taken off. They did give me bleach and trays but my gums would swell and they hurt so I tried the Crest Strips and they did very well. I also use whiting tooth paste and when I smoked people were surprised at how white my teeth were.

my dentist recomended the Crest OTC brand but the important part is to do it within a week or two MAX of having your teeth cleaned. They told me that if you go any longer than that then you'll have plaque build up and it won't work or do as well.
