We've been in our house for a year now and still have papershades for our window treatments! One of my goals this summer is to get some real window treatments, at least for some of the rooms, including the nursery. We don't want to spend a lot of money but also want a good product. Before I delivered my son, we were working w/someone from Eddie Zs but we never followed through. Has anyone worked w/Home Depot or Lowe's for this? We don't have time for DIY. Please let me know if you recommend an affordable company or product for window treatments. If it helps, we would like shades -- no curtains and no shutters (not at this time). We were looking at energy efficient window treatments and something that's good for people w/allergies. I'm so bad at decorating and can never make up my mind!!! Thanks for your help.

We got some nice faux wood blinds from Home Depot. They look great and won't warp like the real wood ones can if exposed to moisture. All of my family has allergies and we've really liked these blinds. I ordered them online from homedepot.com and we installed them ourselves, but I believe they will also install them for you. You just have to check with your nearest store. They will also cut them to fit at the store. Hope this helps!

Hi Tisia,
We put Home Depot "off the shelf" shades in some of our bedrooms (they have "standard" sizes or ones you can cut to fit if you have odd size windows). I don't think these are the energy efficient type, but we're happy with them. For other rooms, I've ordered shades from JC Penny (the cordless type). They cost a little more, but I like that you can just push them up & down and they're safe around the kids. For our family room, we bought a room-darkening, continuous cord shade from Budget Blinds. They were cheaper than Eddie Z's and we're very happy with it. Since that room gets the hot afternoon sun that's why we chose it. The room darkening keeps the room cooler. It also saves our couch from sun-fade and keeps the glare off the t.v. Good luck with your search!

My husband just bought and installed a shade from Home Depo yesterday. We currently have wood blinds in my 2 year olds room. They look great but do not keep his room dark enough and when there is a storm the lightning wakes him up and frightens him. So, we decided to install a shade over the blinds. The problem we ran into was that the shade my husband bought was not heavy enough to block out the light. That completely defeats the purpose of what we were trying to accomplish. So, my husband is going back to Home Depo tonight to get a HEAVY shade. My recommendation to you is to buy something heavy so that you can make the room dark for naps and storms.

We used Budget Blinds. I think they were much more affordable than the other stores. They come to your house, bring pictures, samples, and put up the window treaments as well. They also offer interest-free financing so all around, I think they are your best bet.

Here is the website for the person we used, Lee Ohara. Tell her D. Coop sent you. Good luck, you will love your house so much more once you get this done!

I bought shades at Lowe's and am very happy with their customer service. I commend you for putting up with the paper shades for a year! I couldn't wait to get rid of those after several months. I've had issues with a few of the shades I purchased and Lowe's has been top notch at working with Levelor to resolve them. If you contact their customer service by phone or email they will send you a 10% coupon off your entire purchase. Wait for the brand you like to go on sale (Levelor does a few times a year - 25% off I think) and use the 10% on top of that. 'Robin' at the Geneva Lowe's has been excellent to deal with. Very detail minded and great follow through.

I have bought blinds on a few occasions from blindsgalore.com and have found that they have the best prices anywhere if you are willing to self install and do your own measuring. If you sign up for their emails, they have frequent sales ranging from 5% to 25% off. The 25% off seems to happen around holidays. I wouldn't be surprised if they have a 25% promotion for the 4th of July. If you decide to try Blinds Galore, you can order samples now and wait until they are offering the discount you want.
