I'm looking for a high chair for my 5 month old that won't take up too much space in our city apartment. it would be great if it could fold up and be put away. Any suggestions?

What can I do next?

hi D., i just got the flair by boon. it does not fold up, the fold up ones or the chair attachment ones sound like a better idea to me for you. but if you dont want one of those, (i prefer one that stands alone that i can leave out) this one is great. it has a much smaller footprint than most of the ones that fold up, and the best part is that it is super easy to clean. thats the whole reason i bought it, got sick of digging old dried up food out of my old one with a butter knife. its overpriced and pretentious looking, imo, but i dont care, i wipe it spotless in 2 seconds. just another option for you....

Get one of those travel size ones that ATTACH to a regular chair - you buckle all of the sides to the real chair. It's like $30 and I think FISHER PRICE makes one?

It's perfect as it's small and it's portable - you can bring it to restaurants or families houses that don't have high chairs as well.

We lived in Chelsea for the 1st year of our daughter's life and we used this highchair all of the itme.

Hi D.,

My name is J. I am from SI, NY I have a 10 month old. I have been using the Chicco high chair from babies r us since she is 4 months old. its great and folds up and stores easily. Very easy to clean as well. I put the link below from the babies r us website but if it doesn't work just look up Chicco high chairs. Also another way to save space if your apt is that small is to use one of the chairs that you can attached to a kitchen or dining room chair there are a few nice ones out there.

We have the Fisher Price Space Saver (http://www.fisher-price.com/fp.aspx?st=2002&e=product...) and love it. We too live in the city and it's great to not have to take up space with a bulky high chair. It has a full size tray (which a lot of the compact chairs do not have). Best part is that it wipes clean very easily and when your child gets bigger, it converts to a booster seat, so you don't need to buy something else. They sell it at Babies R Us for $49.99.

There is a great screw on highchair that folds up at schnieders on 1st ave and 1st street. It is nice looking, (brushed steel and navy blue.)It attaches to any table or counter and you can take it anywhere.

hi D.. i have purchased the Stokke Tripp Trapp chair for my house and grandma's house, because its very compact, takes just as much space as your own chair. Great feautures about it: that it moves up right to the table where everyone is eating so the baby is not excluded, its leveled with a standard table high, there are many natural and painted colors to choose from so it can be matched to your furniture. and the best that it grows with your child until adulthood, you just have to move the seat and the foot rest (which is very easy). Recommended age for it is 6 months, but i started using from 5,5 months.
and also its a good looking chair, modern and slick.
i bought mine at www.Egiggle.com and www.BuyBuyBaby.com

We have the Ikea chair. Very compact and easy to clean. Completely no frills so if you are looking for reclining or wheels, this one isn't for you. There is also the Stokkes which grows with your child and slides right up to the table, but I found I really needed a tray.

ikea has a really great, small chair. it's called "antilop", it's only $18.95 and you have to order the tray separately, which i think is on $5 or so. it doesn't fold but it's really simple and doesn't take up a lot of space.

We reccently got a high chair for our son when he was 7 months old and it's one of the few pieces of baby equipment with which we're thrilled.

The Antilop highchair from Ikea -- it was only $18.99 with an accessory tray for $5.(Yes, you're reading those prices correctly -- a new high chair for under $25.) We were astounded at the price. It's really good, spare, useful design. Easy to keep clean and the modest scale is perfect for our Manhattan apartment that is quickly being taken over by baby things. It's so simple to dis-assemble and re-assemble that we take it with us in the car on road trips.

My husband and I were recently wondering why all baby equipment can't be like this -- so reasonably priced and simple! Here is the link so you can see and read about it yourself. http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/30069724

I hope you find the right solution for your family. Good luck!

Hi,
We use a booster seat with belt and snap on tray- it folds up, so you can carry it with you places, but we just keep it on one of the kitchen chairs, and that is his chair. It is great and you don't need a high chair at all. Its also plastic so you can easily wipe it down. Ours is a Safety First.
Good luck!

My husband and I got the Ficher Price booster seat. It goes on a regular chair. It fastens on very tight and has a tray and straps inside too! We love it because it doesn't take up any extra space (just a regular chair!) The tray is nice for when they are little and then you can just scoot them up to the table once they are done with the tray. The seat has 3 height adjustments too. We got ours at Target but you can also get them at Babies R Us. My friend has one too and they love it!! Here's a picture!!

Hope you find one that works for you and your baby!!!

We use the safety first strap on model. It just straps to your kitchen chair and you can take it with you anywhere! My son now uses it as a booster seat, and I love that I can still buckle him in, but he sits at the table with us and the tray stores really well. I think it sells for around $20, so it is a great deal. I have had the full on high chairs before and will never again have a big bulky high chair! Hope you find what you're looking for.

Phil and Ted's make a great portable high chair that clamps onto the kitchen table (or any table). It is a great space saver and it collapses into such a small little package. It costs $ 60 from giggle. We also have a Stokke Trip Trap but have not put it together yet, so are still using the phil and ted's... We may just keep using it because it works perfectly for now and takes up no room at all. Good luck!

Hey there,

I absolutely LOVE my son's high chair - it is perfect for a New York apartment. It is actually a chair that straps into an existing dinning room chair - so it doesn't take up anymore room. It is made by Eddie Bauer and is sturdy and very cute - it is made of wood and has a cushion and a plastic tray. I purchased it at Babies R' Us and it was about $40 - can't beat the price.

Here is a link to it on their website:

Hope that helps,
A.
