Does anyone recommend a "real" looking Santa at one of the malls for pictures? I am used to the Santa at NorthPark Mall in Dallas (he looks very real, plus you can take your own pictures!)...anything like that in San Antonio?

So What Happened?

Thanks for all the suggestions about a "real" looking Santa. We are going to head to Bass Pro Shop (during the week 5-9 PM this week, FYI!) and hope for a short line. I called out there and as long as the line isn't long...you can snap away with your own camera. Yippee!
Happy Holidays!

NORTH STAR MALL! They have two Santas, both are very "real". (Santa's house is in the Saks wing on the 410 side of the Mall.)

There is always a really great display at the Bass Pro Shop off I-10 at the Rim Shopping Center near Fiesta Texas. Last year my son was just 2 weeks old when we took his picture. The santa has a real white beard, and there are real stuffed reindeer in front of the sleigh. We will be going there again this year for our son's pictures.

We took the kids to the Brass Pro Shop at the Rim at IH10 and Fiesta Texas exit. They even give you a free photo with Santa and if you want more you can order on your own. No pressure to buy anything. The Santa there is very real looking and we were also pleased to find that he was the same Santa at La Contera last year as we liked him. The kids also enjoyed the trains, cars etc they had out and they had tables where they could color and also a letter to Santa your child could write and you give it to them or put it in their mail box and it will go to Santa. I believe you also get a reply from Santa in the mail. Then the kids also enjoyed just walking around the shop looking at all the stuffed animals such as lions, deer, elk, zebras etc. They did a very good job.

So far every year we have had our pictures taken at local malls (Ingram Park, North Star and Rolling Oaks) all the Santas have been great and look real. Only our first year here (2002) did we have problems with a Santa and he was at Northstar and he was a grumpy Santa.

None of them will let you take pictures unless you are planning on buying them also. Some won't even if you do buy. I am going to beg and plead to get pics of our "first" Santa pic with our son and I plan to buy theres.

I have found that going to the mall immediately after school gets out for my 7 year old is a great time. They are coming back from lunch and no one is there and the past three years she has had Santa all to herself for 20 mins or so. It has been really cool, because she and Santa have just talked. Two years ago it was so cool I had to buy two sets of pictures, because the lady took a few for fun of them just talking! Also, because there wasn't anyone around, I was able to look at her camera and pick my picture.

Good luck.
