Does anyone have any advice for trying to get the real estate license the 2ND time. I tried 6 yrs ago and passed the classrm test - but failed the state exam 3x. I have a learning disability and have test anxiety. I have been on the internet looking at study guides to help prepare you. SOme books are very expensive - but I will buy anything to help me pass this test. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I used an online program called exam pro? (I think)it's been awhile. It is a great program because it breaks everything down into 5 catergories, and tests you in each one. It then shows you the correct answer to every question, and an explanation why. It also shows you how to calculate the math questions! It was great, and it really helped me. I don't think I could of passed without it. The state exam tries to trick you with a lot of the questions, so just remember what you know and don't let it fool you. Don't try to anaylize every question it's either right or wrong, you can't explain to a computer why a wrong answer could be right.

Hi M.,
Honestly, I wouldn't even try to get your real estate license right now, especially if you have to buy expensive books and pay money. I'm sure you know how bad the market is right now all the real estate agents I've known have had to switch to other jobs. Personally, we've been selling a condo in another state for almost a year now and all new construction in my neighborhood has not moved at all. Why don't you try selling insurance you can go to www.vickigulvason.com follow the links, you can even do that from home. Good Luck. P.S. Don't feel bad about your learning disability and test taking, I think I had the same thing and I got through college with it so it's possible, don't get discouraged by that, take care.

My husband has ADD & needed to pass a series of tests to achieve his certificate as a master technician. Through hypnosis I helped him learn to control his fears to feel confident & pass his exams. I have also helped several college students let go of fear of test taking. Consider consulting with a certified hypnotist. Good Luck!

I also failed the 1st time I took the state test. For me, it was because the class was stretched out so long and then it was another few weeks before I took the state exam. Taking the class in one week worked for me. You go for like 7 hrs a day Mon-Fri, take the class test on the last day and should be able to take the state exam in a week. Everything is concentrated and so it stays in the front of you mind until you can take the exam.
As a side note, the Real Estate industry may be a little slower now than what we have seen in the past years, but to me that just means the Agents that actually stick out provide better service to their clients and are more creative at find new clients. Good Luck to you!

I took an online course and studied on my own. I am pretty sure I still have my flashcards and practice books if you would like them. I passed the first time and thought it was super easy so I think it had to be the preparation materials. One of the books was from the "Dummies" series, lol. The other was one of the big company prep books like Kaplan if I remember correctly.

The RE exams now are quite hard. They were hard back when I got my license in 1985, but I understand they are much more difficult now on purpose ~ since there has been so many people getting their license and the business was/is being flooded with those who didn't/don't know what they are doing. My suggestion would be to call your local Board of Realtors and see when they have a test review class before going for your exam. Most of those teachers are excellent and will make a big point of going over the items that will be covered in the test. (I've heard there are 5 different tests (??) ~ plus they tend to reword questions in ways that throw you off.) If you're in the Western Suburbs of Chicagoland, see if you can schedule a class with Lynne Madison. She's excellent. Classroom training is much better prep for the state exam than self training, in my humble opinion, as you get targeted review ~ and classroom dialogue. The "spoken word" has a much better chance of sticking in your brain that self study. Best of luck!

I took my real estate exam 3 times as well. I passed on the 3rd try. You gotta just memorize all the law in the back of the book. That's what was screwing me up. The whole thing is memorization. Try making flash cards. That has always helped me on tests. Good luck! If you need anymore advice let me know

I am a real estate broker, so can definitely help. The best advice I can offer you is to find an office that you'll be working for, and ask the broker for assistance. Good brokers should be willing to help you and often have computer software with mock exams, so you'll be better prepared for the exam.

If you don't have any idea of who you want to work for, you are welcome to call me- ###-###-####. My broker and I are good friends who started our own office, and have successfully trained new agents to pass the exam and then we help you get started in the business with client leads and advertising. We're always looking for new agents, and it would be nice to have another agent with a five-year old son, so we could babysit for each other when necessary!

Good luck!

When I took my real estate class a couple years ago they gave us access to a database which had practice tests you can take. It was very helpful because I know the state exam has some very tricky questions. Don't feel bad, I took my exam 3x too, and passed on the last test. Try searching on the internet for real estate practice test's, there seems to be a few out there!
