Reaching Peri-menopausal Age and Looking for Web Information and Online Advice.

I so enjoy this website and sure hope to continue to do so as my toddlers grow. However, I would love to find a similar online forum to mamasource but focused on menopausal issues as I reach peri-menopausal age. Do you know of any other websites for women (or women after 40) that I can check for more information on health, medications, advice, etc.? Just as in motherhood at the beginning, it is difficult to find answers as your body enters a new phase and it is also hard not to know where to turn for questions and answers (besides mamasource :-)). How many times as a new mom, I'd worry over something about my kids, just to read another mamasource mom ask that very question that day. And how comforting it was to read a million mamasource moms answer "that's normal" or giving away their priceless advice on it. Now I need to open myself to something new again and I am having difficulty starting. I believe a website such this would be pretty awesome. Is there something like this out there? It would be like listening/reading on this big new word in my life... menopause... I guess I've been deep into peri-menoupase already, oops!... those hormones again! Gee, I better start reading about the subject, before I miss the phase. I am grateful for any answers (websites, magazines, books, etc.). Thanks much!

Hi C. I am 55 yrs old and peri-menopausal. I always suffered w PMS severely. (Just ask my husband!) All the symptoms-mood swings cramps bloating and polycystic breast tissue (had breast cancer scare at 50) I now take soysentials -a safe nutritional supplement that has given me relief from ALL of those symptoms. I did notice that hot flashes were beginning along w night sweats. I just take more soysentials and they r gone! My husband keeps extra under the bed so I don't run out (that happened once and all the symptoms returned) when I finally do go through menopause-I anticipate very few issues!

I think your idea is wonderful.
I cannot imagine going through menopause with toddlers to care for and think you Mums in this situation are going to need each other , there seem to be so many of you these days.
In my day we had our children early as after thirty was considered risky ( it was back then ) and most of us stopped bearing children before 35..I was 33 when my youngest was born. I have seven.
I did not medicate for menopause..I started mid forties..will be 65 in June and had my last period last year ( at least I hope it was the last one..seem to have one psuedo period per year) LOL My Mum had a hysterectomy in her early 70's because she was having odds and ends of periods still.
In my late forties I reached the peak of menopause as far as the hormonal effects in intensity but was pretty much over it in early fifties.
I had three teenage boys in the home at the time. Perhaps toddlers will be easier to deal with.
I think it must take different amount of time for each individual.
You have defined work to do and a supportive husband.
Think you will get through this just fine dear. Sorta go with the flow..dont fight it..take it all with a grain of salt.
Eat healthy, exercise if you can..very important to find a bit of time for yourself during this time. Have someone to talk with, older relative, friend, friend at church.
Hearing their experiences should help put yours into perspective.
In my opinion medication is NOT helpful and altho I tried it for a short time I soon put it away. This is how God made our bodies to function and He would help me through it. I cannot see that the meds were any help at all after a week or so and seemed to have more negative effects than positive.
For me the very worst part was the hot flashes, sweats and night sweats.
I bet you could find an herbal supplement in Health Food Store that would be a great deal of help with your symptoms. Try more than one, if one doesnt work for you , try another. Herbs are fantastic.
Tincture of time and this , too, shall pass.
Best wishes and God bless

HI C.,
I take a health supplement, all natural, through Melaleuca it has really helped with mood swings and regularity. I asked my doctor about it and he told me the average age for menopause is 51, so at 45 I am still quite a few years away. But I thought I was very close. I do not think the medical community gives it enough attention or has enough information available to us.

My hot flashes have never been too bad but they may get worse as I get older.
Peace,
J.

Sounds like a great idea C.! I was interested in hearing the response because I too would like to be on top of it all before it starts springing on me. I would hate to hear, of you should have tried/started this when you turned 40... I am nearly 42 myself with a 8 mos old and a 2 year old, so I'm feeling it! I think that you just signed yourself up to start this up :) I'd be interested!

I absolutely agree with Joanne H about soysentials - it has helped me SO much with fibrocystic breast disease and in just a short period of time! It's also great for bone density issues which menopausal women face. Many of my friends had great relief from night sweats and hot flashes too - mine weren't so severe but they swear by it! The hormone therapy drugs scare me to death so I am thrilled to have something safe and so well-researched.

There's good info on the woman to woman site someone else mentioned. There is a newsletter called Vibrant Nation which has a lot of ads but also an interactive feature - not as involved or varied as mamasource but you might check it out.

Hi C.,
I'm not sure which site's are available and I'm anxious to see what other's suggest. However, you would LOVE the book From Belly Fat to Belly Flat by CW Randolph, MD!! I recommend it to ALL of my Arbonne customers.

Two other things that are a must...Arbonne's Prolief Natural Balance Cream and Arbonne's Hybrid vitamins...at 43 I'm so grateful that I've come across these products...my energy level has NEVER been so great:)!

Contact me with any questions you have. You can get more information at my website http://www.kellymcinnis.myarbonne.com
Good luck,
