Hi. Ladies,

Ok so I have very sensitive skin, and i always have, but is there any way to avoid razor burn, no matter what type of razor, no matter what type of shaving cream, my legs itch like crazy about a day after shaving.. I have tried other types of hair removal product, they either also break me out, or didn't even work.. Any advise or special razor brand or cream that you use that helps, or tips?? Thanks

P.s. I am not looking for people to tell me different types of methods, like nair, or whatever.. I am asking strictly on shaving.. Thanks (not to be rude)

What can I do next?

I use Aveeno shave cream. I actually shave every day because my hair grows so fast I have pretty good stubble if I don't. It actually irritates me more if I leave the stubble and hair catches on my clothing and such. The other thing I do is soak in Epsom salt at least once a week. That really seems to help knock down stinging sensation. I have yet to find a lotion I can use with out having a serious skin break out. :(

For myself, I've found it's not the razor, per se... but the hair growing back through the skin. The hair growing back through creates tiny little "bubbles" in about 1:4 follicles, and then if I shave, I'm slicing the tops of the 'bubbles' off. Which hurts. And then, of course, they're all red.

To completely nix the itch/burn... I just use a poofy-thingmy (the plastic bathpoofs) with some neutragena acne bodywash, and only shave every other day. I scrub my legs every day (before shaving on shave days), but the day in between I make sure to be really thorough. It exfoliates the little bubbles off and allows the tiny hairs to poke through, and the body wash keeps any infection from happening. Next day, I scrub again, and then shave.

Since I started no more oweeeeee! shaving, and no more pseudo-burn.

((I use a Fusion 4 blade razor, btw. Goregous razor that just sliiiiiiides and deals with my combo of coarse/fine hair like a dream. Not the electric one, just the normal one))

For my bikini area which gets REAL razor burn, I just apply Secret Solid Unscented deodorant after shaving, and ANY time I feel any friction or heat. Voila. Magic.

I don't know if you've tried this, but with whatever razor you use, try shaving as LIGHTLY as possible. I hadn't realized how much of a difference it could make. I was getting razor burn a lot, and for some reason I tried shaving as lightly as possible, and it worked for me. It shaved my hair too, so it didn't end up causing issues with that. I can't think of any razor brands I use! Um...I bought all mine when I was into couponing three years ago and bought a ton of them! But the key for me is to shave SUPER LIGHTLY. Sometimes my legs will still get itchy, but they don't get red bumps all over them the same way they used to.

Buy a good man's razor. Get one with at least a triple blade and make sure you change the blade after at least 3 shaves. Dull blades cause razor irritation.

Do exfoliate twice a week. I love the Victoria Secrets sugar scrubs for this... You can also make your own sugar scrub by adding Sugar in the Raw to liquid body soap.

Find a good shaving lotion. Don't use soap to shave with. Try the drug store brand first.. venus or whatever. If those are not doing it for you, try Kiehls.

It's a bit more expensive, but you will be bump-free and ingrown free!

After you shave, always use a good lotion. Your skin needs this to help seal in the moisture since you just removed the top layer of dead skin cells.

It sounds like a lot to do, but you will have legs you love!

When I had that problem I would smooth a little hydrocortizone cream on my legs directly after my shower when I shaved. It seemed to stop the problem before it started. It is moisturizing, and also anti itch.
Good luck!

i have heard of people using hair conditioner as a "cream" for shaving, one girl i know even used sensitive skin lotion to shave with. have you tried shaving every day to keep the itchy stubble away?

For my entire life, I have had a problem with getting itchy bumps on my legs after shaving if I do not use Aveeno lotion everytime after I shave. Just the regular lotion, not the shimmer stuff, or the scented stuff, etc. Just the plain old Aveeno lotion. Works miracles for me. If I don't use it one time, I get the intensely itchy bumps. If I use it immediately after shaving, I'm completely fine.

Try it! (Oh, and the store brands, like walmart's or target's brands work just as well as the Aveeno brand, but make sure it's just the original lotion...)

Have you tried the shaving gel - oooh I can't remember the name - but it's with the razors - it's specifically designed for sensitive skin?

I would also try the razors with 3 or more blades instead of the single or one or two blades. Like the Venus....there's one package by Venus that says "the secrets to shaving success"...it was a red pamphlet in with the razor - sorry - didn't keep it!!

I would also wait until my hair is there to shave - I have a GF who shaves EVERYDAY and she wonders WHY her legs are "itchy"...girl you shave too much!! :)

My sister has sensitive skin as well and uses the Nair for extra sensitive skin and likes it..

I have really sensitive skin too and would always get razor burn like it was going out of style! At some point I figured out what works for me and now I rarely get it.
It doesn't matter what razor or cream that I use, but for a while now I've been using the venus razors with the built in gel thing without cream at all. I shave as the very last thing I do in the shower or tub. When I'm done I get out right away. Then I use a good, thicker, lotion (if it comes in a tub instead of a pump it's usually pretty good) or a body oil on my legs. I put more than you would normally use to just moisturize. If I'm a little itchy later, I just put on more lotion.

It hasn't been a problem since laser hair removal about 10 years ago.
My leg hair is so light and invisible now I hardly need to shave them anymore except to remove a little peach fuzz every now and then.
