My now 4 year old keeps getting rashes. They r all over back, neck, stomach, shoulders, and arms. They r small and very itchy. I've taken my baby to the doc. and he gave her internal medicine. Does anyone know some external medicine that'll stop the itching, make the rashes go away, and remove the marks from her scratching? Any suggestions where the rashes may be from? Her doc. didn't give me any diagnosis either, just medication.

What can I do next?

My son has had eczema and has since he was a toddler. It started as an itch then he would start to scratch so much that his skin would break out more and even redder than before-he would make himself bleed by scratching so much too. They eventually put my son on prescription allergy meds(one was called atarax) and a foam medicine(called verdeso foam) that he could put on him that helps with the itching. A combo of those seemed to really help. You can also use hydrocortisone cream and a little bit of benadryl. Good luck to you and if you have more questions, feel free to get back with me.

When my 2 year old had Scarlet Fever this is what I did and he never peeled afterward or anything:

After bathing apply Eucerin Lotion (w/green top) to heal the skin and put long PJ's on. Seems greasy but will absorb into the skin.

Apply Gold Bond Lotion (green bottle) to stop the itch during the day.

Rash should be gone by the end of the week.

Try Benadryl cream and rub it on the infected areas and Johnson and johnson makes an oatmeal bath bar that's really good. Look at the laundry soap, fabric softners, or foods that she is eating. However, the Benadryl should do the trick. Good luck!

We found out my oldest son was allergic to the laundry soap we were using. He has "Contact Dermatitis". He will break out in a rash if he wears new clothes before they are washed, we use the wrong type of laundry soap, if we used the wrong diapers, etc.

If she is taking Benadryl internally, then do not put it on topically. We used to give cool oatmeal baths or put ice packs on the itchy areas to calm the inflamation and itching.

Hope this helps!

It all depends on your inhabitants as to where the rashes are coming from. Give Dr.Smith's ointment a try. It is for diaper rash but works wonders on any type of rash. You can find it at your local Walgreens. It cost about ten bucks a container but trust me it works. It sounds like she may have had an allergic reaction to something, hence the internal medicine. Don't be afraid to ask questions, call up her doctor and ask for the diagnosis and then look it up on WebMD. I work in a Family Practice and know that a rash just isn't a rash, there is always a reason and a diagnosis.

if you can afford the cost. Care her to the dermatologist. When my daughter was very young she would get rashes and they would give me ointments and medicines to take by mouth. The Dr never really had an answer. She would tell me it was from pet hair, something she was eating, laundry soap. This went on for alomost 2 years until I changed insurance and took her straight to a dermatologist. They did a small scrapping of her skin and in five minutes came back telling me it was some type of fungus. Gave me some medication and some saop to bath her with and it never came back. She is 17 now. :) Good Luck!

Could be hives which my little girl gets. Nothing causes it as such, hers are stress related!! Amazing in a two year old, but when she gets very distressed, out come the rashes. You can use calamine lotion to ease the itching, and the docs have said to use an anti-allergy thing like benadryl for the rashes. Get her seen again so you know what you are dealing with.

Could it be eczema? It sounds like what my 9 month-old has. I give him zyrtec and sometimes use steroid cream to stop the itching. You may want to check with your doctor.

K,

Change doctors there has to be a reason for the rashes or he would not know what med to treat with. Benadryl(it's clear) stops itching right away it is topical!

find a holistic doctor, or at least another doc... he could have food allergies, possibly. check it out, there are docs who work deeper than what yours is doing. if you live in austin, i know a great guy... if not i can still give you his info and he could probably send you in the right direction.

Hello,

What's good for rashes like that is a creme called Eucerin. It won't take the rashes away, but it will soothe the itch a lot and keep the skin moist. Eucerin can be expensive, but it is worth it. The knock off brands are cheaper but not as good. It seems these type of rashes happen during the cold season. The doc probably gave her something internally because she/he believes there is something in the make-up of your child's body creating the rashes. Make sure your child is not allegric to anything by weeding things out. See if the doc can give you an external creme to put on your child. Hope it works out for you!

I would strongly suggest a chlorine(chemical) filter from a local health store. It fits on your showerhead. The amt of chlorine in our water is very toxic. You soak in it and breathe it. A 10 min shower is the equivalent of drinking 10 glasses of tap water! I have one on all our showerheads and run my childrens' bath from the shower. They cost about $40 and you replace the $19 filter once a year. Since my boys don't take a bath EVERY night...I stretch the filter till 1.5 yrs!! Two, get Burt's Baby Bee soap for babies or something similar. The detergents and chemicals in the soap, plus the chlorine in the water are too harsh and not safe for kids. Three, get a natural laundry detergent. Nix the extras like chlorine bleach and fabric softeners...unless you can find natural ones! Kids are SO overloaded w/ these chemicals. It's no wonder 1/2 of them are walking around w/ skin/scalp probs!! Think about the amt of time your childs skin touches the chemicals in fabric...towels, clothes, sheets, etc. Plus the toxic foam hand cleaners they make for children. You'll notice a huge difference in the way her hair and skin feel if you can implement these changes!! Good luck! If this doesn't work within 6-8 weeks, see a Homeopathic Practictioner about allergies. Please do that before giving her meds that can hurt other systems in her body!

Sometimes it could be the soap you use. My children can't use lifeboy or irish spring. Breaks them out from head to toe. We have always used either ivory, dial or safeguard because they are antibacterial. Calamine and Aveeno makes a bath wash, that might help.
