My five month old daughter is a big drooler.........she has recently started sleeping on her tummy, she loves it and I am okay with her sleeping like that. However, since she does drool so much and now sleeps on her tummy she ends up laying in her drrol most of the night (a seeminly endless flow) and has developed a rash or irritated skin under chin and one her neck. I put vasaline and or aquafor all over the area to try to protect the skin from the drool but it does not seem to be helping. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks

What can I do next?

My daughter had that problem as well - not necessarily a rash but it would get all red and stinky. The dr said it was a yeast infection and gave us medicine *cream* to put on it. We had to make sure we wiped out around her neck a few times a day.and would put neosporin on it when it started to get red and that seemed to help.

My kids went through the same thing from teething. I would put the drool bibs or regular bibs on them. I tried to change them quite often or put a two on at a time. You might use a food bib that has the plastic underside (to keep her dry_ and then a drool bib on top of it (to soak up the drool). Its the sort of thing they basically have to grow out of and just change them a lot to keep them dry.

You might try one of those pads they put under you in the hospital. I know I brought some home with me for times like this. They have a soft cover, but are absorbent like a diaper inside. It would take the moisture away from her face, but not be a suffocation threat.

My son was a huge drooler and has very sensitive skin. He is three and still has problems - especially his chin. I use A & D ointment on his face. I can put it on and it clears up over night. I use it for everything for the whole family. Cuts, scratches, chapped lips - even sunburns. I swear by it! And ps. my ped told me to use vaseline and aquafor and they did not work for us. Good luck!!!

Do you breastfeed? The lanolin cream you use makes a great protective barrier and it's ok if it gets in her mouth (unlike Vasoline). If you don't already have some, look at any store in the baby isle new breastfeeding supplies. PurLan and Lasinoh are two brands. A thin layer after washing the area will do the trick:)

Pottery Barn has sheets called Chamois Sheets! They are the SOFTEST and NICEST sheets ever! I think they could help with your babies rash if she is sleeping in drool puddle. This is the best sheet we have ever used and won't use any other! It was given to us as a gift and we LOVE it! So soft and comfy for our little one. Hope that helps!
