Hi Everyone,
I started antibiotics on Thursday night. On Saturday morning I woke up covered in little pink dots all over my arms, legs and chest. I called the doctor who said to stop the antibiotics in case that was the cause and come back in on Monday. Well Saturday progresses and I start feeling achy and start a low grade fever of 101. My thoughts are now maybe the rash is from a virus I have. Anyways, my real question is how long will this rash last? I have a big presentation on Tuesday and do not want to still be covered in dots!
Anyone with experiences with virus rash/antibiotic rash or any suggestions on how to get rid of the rash would be helpful. Thank in advance.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks for the advice everyone! I went the doctor yesterday and he thought the rash was from the antibiotics. He prescribed me a different one for my sinus infection. My rash is almost gone!!! I decided to wear long sleeves for my presentation today. Thanks again.

I had strep one year and took some penicillin and broke out in the pink dot rash all over my entire body. It was gone within 48 hours of stopping the meds. Havent taken penicillin since. So, my guess is that its from the antibiotic.

You may have to cancel Tuesday.

If it's a virus, it will have to run it's course.
If it's an allergic reaction, who knows how long it'll take?

WHY are you on antibiotics?
My son was put on antibiotics diagnosed with strep. He started getting itchy bumps all over his feet and hands mostly. They worsened and became pimply looking. Dr said to stop antibiotics. The bumps took a couple weeks to completely go away. Could be thatthey stopped b/c we stopped the antibiotics, or it could be that they stopped b/c the virus ran it's course (we think it may have been hand-mouth-foot disease).

Go to the dr Monday. You could be contagious and you don't want that big presenation to be a big virus-give-away.

I had a really bad reaction to tetracycline about ten years ago - they were blotches over my whole body. Benadryl did help quite a bit as well as just stopping the tetracycline! I remember this happened on a Saturday as well and I was fine for work on Monday to be in front of clients.

What are the Antibiotics for?
Then, separately, sounds like you are ill... perhaps with a Flu? ie: fever, body aches etc.
Maybe.

Rash, can be from a virus. Or something else. Illness.
What does the pamphlet, for your Antibiotic say??? Usually, with any prescription... a drug info pamphlet is given. Did you get this? Read it and see what reactions may be caused by the medicine.

Well good thing you are scheduled to go back to the Doctor, tomorrow.
Hopefully, you are not real contagious.

My son had a nasty rash from antibiotics for...drum roll please....10 days :) I'm sorry, it was so long, we thought the fricken rash was never going to go away. They gave him a steroid to speed up the healing process, and it took a few days.

If it's from the virus, I don't know, but I had a reaction to Amoxicillin years ago and it took at least two weeks for the rash to completely disappear although it faded within days of stopping the Amoxicillin.
