I'm guessing a patch of eczema. Slather some hydrocortisone on there, should clear it up. If not, call the doc.

If you google 'rash' you can find a lot of pictures that show what rashes are what. I am betting its eczema though. TAlk to the doc to be sure maybe though. Treatment is just hydrocortisone cream. It clears up pretty fast.

Since it's been there so long, take him to the pediatrician. They always want to see skin rashes in case it's a viral or bacterial infection. It could be eczema. You don't want to treat it OTC unless you know what it is.

when you say "a quarter size rash" that makes me think ringworm. It's a fungus that causes a small, well-defined area of redness, very common in kids.

Could it be a little eczema? Rough little pinkish-red bumps and maybe occasional skin flaking? Try rubbing some Cetaphil into it several times a day for a few days and see if that helps.

Has he had his 1 year old checkup? If not, ask the pedi when you go. Or call and ask them - the nurse may be able to point you in the right direction as to whether it's something that over the counter stuff will work on or if you need to come in. The last thing you need is for it to get infected from him scratching it too much, if it bleeds, etc.
