Rainbow Loom And/or Y-flicker Scooter for 6 Year Old?

So now that we are NOT getting a second American Girl doll for Christmas (see the question I posted before this one!), DD is making a list of other things. One thing she said she wants is a Y-Flicker Scooter, which looks like this:

I was also thinking of getting her a Rainbow Loom, since they seem really popular right now, but I am wondering if trying to make stuff with it will be too difficult for her on her own (the packaging says ages 8 and up). I really don't want to get something for her that is going to turn into something I have to do for her myself ;)

Any thoughts (positive or negative) on either toy for a 6 year old? If your kids have them, how much have they enjoyed them and what have you liked or not liked about them? TIA!

What can I do next?

I watched a video today and I'm not sure I could follow the instructions on the loom without having some great messes that have to be taken apart and redone a few times.

I think it's very age appropriate for the age listed on the box. It's too advanced for her. You'll be the one cleaning up all the bands and mess because she'll get frustrated and leave them laying every where.

As for the scooter she'll need a lot of long concrete space to get that scooter moving. If she's muscular she should have no problems. If you only have a short driveway I'd worry she wouldn't be able to get it going and enjoy the full benefit.

A loom is not necessary to make the bracelets. Both my kids (7 and 11), make those rubberband bracelets, without the loom and just use their fingers. My daughter, says the loom is not necessary and just too expensive.
The bag of rubberbands is not expensive.
And it is a fad.

The scooter you mentioned, looks fun.

We have a Rainbow Loom at our house. It's mine, but I make a lot of things for my 6 year old. She can put the bands on the pegs, but struggles to move them around to actually MAKE the bracelet.

I don't have an opinion on the scooter, but I'd like to say that the rainbow loom takes a good deal of patience and dexterity that I'm not sure a 6 year old has. It is pretty tricky and my friend's now very mature and coordinated 9 year old just mastered it. I'd skip it for now.

My son also wants a scooter, but I won't get him one for Christmas. We live in Wisconsin. That means 5 minutes of "Yay! A scooter!" followed by having to wait 4-5 months to use it.

Lots of kids have Rainbow Loom around here. One mom gave me a tip - using a crochet hook works better and lasts longer than the hook that comes with the kit.

The scooter looks fun. I've never seen it before. My kids have razors and they LOVE riding them. So a scooter is definitely a great gift.

My son is 6 and many of the girls he knows are totally into the rainbow loom right now. They all recommend the original ("real") one that is only sold at Michael's. If you get it and she ends up not ready, just put it away for a year and try again. I think it's a super-hot, popular toy this year.

Some teachers and even whole schools are banning the rainbow loom bracelets from the classroom because they are a huge distraction. I'd go with the scooter.
