First of all Rachel, I hope you feel better asap!

My throat and head have been hurting for like 4 days. My ears feel kind of stuffy, But its not full blown hell yet. I can still function and go about my business fine, but is this going to turn into something bad or maybe this could just be it? Does this happen to anyone else? I would think after 4 days something would have came of it. Anything at home I can do to make it go away or not let it get worse?

What can I do next?

Gargle salt water... you sound like how I started out, throat burning like hellfire, my ears hurting too... Double ear infection. Then it was like someone hit a switch, it was gone... then 2 days later I get flattened by WHATEVER I have in my chest now... ouch.

A cold can be brutal.
But it doesn't always have to be something serious to make us feel utterly miserable.
In the past I've had sinus pressure in the head so bad I thought I was going to die - my teeth ached, my ears hurt and I swear it felt like my hair hurt, too.
After a few days of that I was beginning to think dying might be a relief (not seriously, but you know how awful being sick can make you feel).
Hang in there!
Keep up the fluids.
Put a heating pad on your neck and head when you're home.

I had strep a week or two ago, it was horrible. I was so sick and for 4 days I lived on water, hot tea, and popsicles. I dropped 16 pounds. I have never been so miserable in my life. Now if I have any sore throat that hurts worse than allergy type, I'm going STRAIGHT to the doctor. I got meds on Monday and by Wednesday evening I was feeling better. It is no joke as an adult. So if it doesn't get better soon - go see the doctor!!

My son had strep and bounced right back. He gave it to me and it knocked me flat for a few days. I had a fever and aches. He just had big ugly tonsils. Go figure. If you can take a look into your throat and see if your tonsils are white & gunky, do it. That's a big sign. I think you can recover without medicine but it takes a LOT longer. Antibiotics got me rolling in a few days as opposed to a few weeks. Feel better!

EDIT - I forgot about STREP leading to other more damaging illnesses. Go get the test, better safe than sorry!

My throat was so sore and I could barely talk. (Volumne)

I didn't have a fever, but was very tired all the time. I slept a lot. I didn't see a doctor, but at my lowest point, if I had gotten any worse, I'd have gone to the doctor.

It took me 3 to 4 weeks to get over almost all the symptoms. All I have left is the quiet voice, but its getting better.

Good luck to you and yours.

Do get tested for strep, but this also could be fall allergies. Even if you've never had allergies before, they can flare up even in adults, espeically if it's been very wet where you are -- that increases the leaf mold in the air as well as other molds; and if it's been dry, you may be reacting to fall plants that are sending out pollen now. Just a possibility. The fact your symptoms have lingered at about the same level for several days may mean it's allergies. Meanwhile, I would still get a strep test and have a doctor examine your throat and sinuses!

I've been feeling like that for nearly a month. I didn't even know I'd had a sinus infection the 1st time I went to the Dr's. I went in because I clearly had pink eye [1st time in my life I'd had it!]. I took a Z-pack and nothin. Just got worse. I'm now on 875mg of Augmentin 2x/day for 10 days. I'm on my 3rd day. And I'm JUST NOW feeling better.

ETA- Sinus infection is what mine started as... On Friday, when I went back to the Dr's, she said that the sinus infection didn't look like it completely went away, but looked as if I started showing signs of tonsilitis (sp?) too. Strep test was negative.

And allergens in MI have been extremely low lately. It would be weed pollen. It's been raining too much to have much weed pollen floating around. And mold [surprisingly] is low too.
