So, it's my husband's responsibility to clean the bathrooms (by his own choice) and I'm having a hard time getting him to believe they need cleaning as frquently as I would like. Could you please quickly tell me how often they are cleaned on your household? I'd like to know if I'm asking too much and I figured since this is pretty anonymous I'll get honest opinions :O) Thanks so much!

So What Happened?

I spoke to my husband tonight about the range of responses I got from this question and I think it will help. I'm only asking that the bathrooms be cleaned thoroughly every 2 weeks with the toilets cleaned weekly and from what I read that's not unreasonable. Thanks to everyone for your honesty, and a brief note to those who said I was lucky to have a man who helps: I know I am :O) BUT, I'm a WAHM and work 25-30 hours/week, so I don't think it's too much to ask! I hope for your sakes those of you that don't get help are SAHMs.

oh I hope no one who knows me sees this
the daycare bathroom is bleached daily, sometimes twice a day but the other two bathrooms are done about every other month at best. I hate cleaning

TC If it's bugging you, just clean the potty & sink a little more often, between his big cleaning sessions. I put my face cleaner on my face & while it sets, I swirl the toilet & wipe the seat with a wipe. Then I wash my face & wipe the sink down with my washcloth - no chemicals & they don't get nasty. It's a little gift I give myself as I occasionally get migraines & never know when they're coming - having a clean potty makes a huge difference between feeling like you're going to throw up and actually doing it! lol. Plus it's my daughter's job to clean once a week, which really equals more like once every two, and she's not that good at it yet so it keeps the bathroom sanitary, particularly with a toddler in the house.

The bottom line for me is this: if it's bugging me, it's worth it to just do it otherwise I get angry with my husband and he's much more important to me than taking 3 minutes to clean the potty myself. :) I sincerely hope that helps you.

Our bathrooms get cleaned once a week. Toilets, tubs and sinks and mirrors and floors. if the sink needs to be wiped down more often we just do it with a washrag and toss it to the laundry. but the rest just once a week.

So glad to see other mom's clean once a week or more, ha! I thought I was the only one. My intentions are 2 times a week, the reality is a deep clean once every 2-3 weeks or if we're having company.

However, I rely a lot on clorox wipes to wipe down counters and sink and do the toilet more frequently than that.

It's gross, I know. Please don't judge me. ; )

I only deep clean once per week. I use Mr. Clean Magic erasers to scrub everything and then I use a spray bottle with bleach and water to disinfect so the mildew doesn't grow. I scrub the toilet mid week as needed (I have the disposable Scrubbing bubbles toilet brush, so it is as easy as a quick wipe down) Every couple of weeks I put the toothbrushes and holder in the dishwasher.

The thing that you can tell your husband is that the germs in the bathroom can cause E-coli and give you flu-like symptoms. When you use the toilet and flush it, the water can mist up and all over the room spreading what ever germs were in the toilet onto the sink, onto your towel and onto your toothbrush. Try to remember to put the toilet seat down before you flush.

Of course, if you can find videos online, that might be a better way to explain it.

In our main bath, the one my son bathes in, I washt eh sink and toilet once a week. I don't do teh tub very often because he is only 5 months and doesn't sit in that much water.

We have a master bath with a huge jetted tub and a seperate glass shower. We try to squeejie (sp?) off the water each time we use the shower. I clean it with soft scrub about once a month. We have a double vanity that I used to clean about twice a week, but since having my sona nd going back to work, maybe every 2 weeks if I'm lucky! Gosh, I am almost embarassed to type that:)

LOVE your question. My husband does not clean at all & it upsets me to no end. But I am anal how things have to be done, so to his defense he doesnt meet my standards. I clean 3 bathrooms weekly or biweekly, top to bottom. It sounds like a lot of work but I figured it wont get as dirty if I keep up on it. Its been a challenge to do this as my kids are 5, 4, & 2, but bathrooms are gross. Let us know what happens with your hubby.

His definition of "clean" and your's is obviously different and this seems to be the commom ocre of the issue. My husband doesn't undertstand tidying up, which for me includes wiping down the sink/vanity, mirrors, counters, etc. every few days or so. This way you never need a major cleaning. Also, most men don't get the cleaning frequency thing. They view things quite differently. A mess to us is "ok" to them. It is not until there is mold or an odor that they take notice. We understand that frequent tidying up prevents situations from heading in this direction. At least he's cleaning! Take note of the small blessings.

Hi T C,
I do my kids bathroom toliet and sink everyday. The tub and floors are a different story. They get "fit in" when time allows. My bathroom seems to always get forgotten and if anyone would use it I would die! Of course this jusst gives me more work becuase I then heavy duty clean them.
Personally, I'm a little jealous becuase my husband doesn't clean At All! Just fill in the time in between the way you like it. I think your question was fun and it will be intersting to read everyone time line.

Thorough cleaning once or twice a week: inside toilet bowl, floors, shower/tub scrubbed, mirrors, dusting...etc. I do what I would consider spot cleaning almost every day: Wipe out sink and handles and outside of toilet including seat, handle, and lid. I have a daycare and definitely more kids using the potty, so I want to minimize germs and such. When they are just starting training I probably have to wipe the potty down about 20 times a day =) Especially for the boys!

I do a full clean once a week, including the tub, and a partial clean one other time. I do tend to wipe down the sink once a day.

But I'm anal. I vacuum at least twice a week, if not more.

I do a quick wipedown every day but once a week I scrub everything down in the bathroom (toliet, tub, floor, etc). I try to do a big clean once a week in our apartment (moving furniture, dusting, etc) and I think I would die of shock if my boyfriend did more then move the furniture so I could vacuum!

My husband's in charge of this at home too. Toilets get done every few weeks. Sinks, shower, counters are more like once per month or wiped down as needed to look decent. High use bathrooms get cleaned more often than others. I wish they were done about every 2 weeks.

Ideally I like our bathrooms to be cleaned thoroughly every week. Does that happen? No, I wish. I clean the tub weekly just because the boys are in it but all the rest gets cleaned (sinks, toilet, floor, mirrors, etc) about every 2 weeks. But I also have no help cleaning, I do it all. If I had someone to help me, I would think weekly is a reasonable request.

I wipe down our main bathroom, that gets used 90% of the time, probably three times a day and I scrub the floor 2-3 times a week once the kids are in school. During the summer it was everyday. I do a daily wipe down of the other bathrooms once a day that don't really get used. I do a full clean twice a week on our main bathroom and a full clean once a week on the others that only get used maybe once a day.
