I had a Mirena IUD inserted about 1 month ago, after a few days I began to bleed. Like a regular period. Its been a month + and I'm still bleeding. Not really heavy, but not light. I am wondering if this is normal? I've called my OBGYN several times and they said it's normal. I'm still breastfeeding my 9 month old son and wanted to check if anyone else has had this happen and when did they stop bleeding?

I had the same issue after having the Mirena inserted as well... I was comforted to know that my doctor actually had similar issues when I talked to her about it because I was just as concerned as you are... after a few months, it will get on more of a "normal" track but I hear ya... it's frustrating until that time comes... It WILL come though.

In the beginning i bleed lightly for about 2 months. I have had it for about 3 years now and hardly get a period at all. I love it.

It's totally normal. I think I got my "period" for at least 2 months straight in the beginning... Maybe even longer.

The same happened with me. My doctor said it takes a few months for things to "get normal". My periods were long, but light for the first few months, and they are starting to get shorter now. I think I'm close to my 6-month mark.

i'm in the same boat - just put one in a couple weeks ago and i'm still bleeding. just a tiny bit, but still.

it's normal. if the spotting continues beyond 6mos then they should check it out, and possibly remove.

I had a mirena put in when I was still breastfeeding. I bled lightly for a max of 2 months. Then it went away and I didn't get any period until after I stopped breastfeeding (this was about 6 months later). Then I spotted non-stop for about 4 months and was ready to have it removed but everything finally stabilized. Since then I've had a period every 3 1/2 weeks that last about a week and are very light. I love it now!!

I actually had bleeding for about two months now I hardly do at all. Occasionally I get a one day period or even a few hours but that is it. I had it placed in March and was feeling the same way you are now. It should ease up. I thought about getting rid of it but I really like it now.

Hi E.,

During my 6-week post-partum check-up, I had a Mirena IUD inserted as well. I bled for at least two months straight and I was breast feeding at the time. It has been almost 10 months since it was inserted and my "periods" are still a little out of whack. Sometimes I completely miss my period and sometimes I simply spot for only a day or two, but I have been reassured that this is normal for Mirena.

I was very worried in the beginning, like you, with the at least two months of consistent bleeding, but now I love it. If you are really concerned, it can't hurt to have the doctor take a look and ensure that all is well...rather be safe than sorry, right?

Good luck with everything!!
