Question on Adopting a Child?

My Husband and I after 8 years of fertility, were finally blessed with our baby girl. We absoulutely love being parents and would love to adopt a child into our home. We have so much to offer a child and my daughter is so excited about having a brother or sister. We have already done a homestudy, however all the adoption possibilities we have are $30,000 and more. I just started advertising in the local papers, but was wondering if anyone knew of any place to advertise that would help us? We don't have $40,000 to do this, but will pay birthmom expenses and legal fees. I was thinking of advertising in colleges etc. I didn't think it would be this hard to love and welcome a child into a family that wants to care for them for the rest of their lives. Any suggestions are welcome!

Hi L.

We adopted our son in 2005 after much heartache. The adoption process is tough and if you do not have the right agency or attorney you will spend a ton of money needlessly.
We went the advertising way for 2 years and many crank calls and wasted money and the wrong agency. We finally went with an adoption attorney and a new agency and within in 15 months we had our son, Sam. A Great resource is www.adoptiveparents.org they are a non profit that help with info and support during the process and after they are in the tristate area. I have many friends that adopted from Texas and went to Abrazo Agency - We used a NJ agency A Loving choice and our Attorney we used was Robin Fleischner she is strictly an adoption attorney.

What ever you decide the process is hard and sometimes long but at the end you will have a child.

Good Luck! L.

Several of my friends have adopted through NYC-based Spence-Chapin (http://www.spence-chapin.org/). They have regularly scheduled information sessions. Hope that's helpful!

If you are willing to consider adopting an older, non-caucasian, or special needs child you can adopt through the state for little or no cost. There are some babies available but the wait is longer. If you are in NJ you might contact Children's Aid and Family Services in Paramus. They are a large agency that deals with adoption and foster care. There is also an adoption resources (information) clearing house in NJ and they may know of local support groups or agencies you might want to talk to. Best of luck with the adoption process.

congrats on your daughter. We also went the fertility route first.. and after many times - we were not successful.. so we adopted. We went to many agencies.. looked at so many options.. and we Choose Holt International. it's awesome. They are well known.. they are the first adoption agency to ever do foreign way back! We adopted our first From Korea almost 13 years ago.. he was healthy - well cared for and was only 2 months old when we got him.. the cost about 15,000. Our little girl came next... she just turned 10 so we adopted her about 9 1/2 years ago.. time flies!!! she was also well cared for by a foster mom in Korea...(most children from Korea are in foster care - versus an institution like place, she came at 7 months old... they are a true blessing. Our daughter cost about 17,000 I hear it has gone up.. but the best part about Holt is you start to pay when you sign up.. you pay about 1/4th then you get placement.. the picture of your child.. and then you pay another 1/4th and then over about the next few months you pay the rest.. so it's not all upfront. Holt is great .. go on line and check it out.. they have many offices.. but check out Holt NJ office.. that's the one we used.. you can also go on the website and read about other people adopting.. We used Holt because it was a safe adoption agency.. they are stealling children, they are stealing money from you.. they are upfront about everything.. they talk to you.. they are a loving agency. they will help you every step of the way. If you need any info -- email me ____@____.com'll love HOLT. I looked in the American adoptions.. and it scared me.. they parents can come back.. and they have.. we actually went to see a lawyer - and soon after we talked to him and paid 7000. he was disbarred... they birth parent can change their mind after you have paid all the medical bills... their is no gaurantee. we then checked Russian adoptions.. and found that the children come at age 2 or over.. usually 4 or 5.. and they are usually sick.. or had alcohol in their blood when they were born.. or usually some other illness and not well cared for ... so Holt just seemed right.. good luck..
