Question for Amazon Prime Members

Hi Moms! I am an Amazon Prime member, and I am confused! Here's what happened. Yesterday, I ordered something for my son (which is a Prime item), and received an email saying it will arrive on Monday. Yesterday was Wednesday. Wednesday to Monday is 5 days. I am a Prime member. I thought Prime means that the item (if it's a Prime item, which it is) will arrive 2 days after you place the order? So I called Amazon customer service to inquire about this. The person told me that Prime means the item will arrive 2 days after it has been shipped - not 2 days after you place the order. Really? That doesn't seem right to me. I always thought Prime means you get it 2 days after you order it! Is this guy right? Thanks.

What can I do next?

I think if it's in the Amazon warehouse, you get it in 2 days. But, if it comes from another company, then it can take longer.

Not every Prime item ships instantly. When you placed the order and before you paid, it would have noted when it would ship/be delivered. You get two-day shipping for free (sometimes even one-day or same-day, depending on the item and your location), but that doesn't mean you will get every Prime item in just 2 days.

A lot depends on where the item is coming from, if there's any bad weather in the way of it's route, etc.
Amazon shipping is pretty amazing but it doesn't just appear "poof" on your door step.
There's a manufacturer and a warehouse, and a distribution center and batches of packages travel by rail, truck, air, and cargo boat - it's pretty amazing when you think about it.
It'll get there as fast as it can.
Mostly we'll do Amazon Prime for the FREE shipping before the holidays - we don't care so much how long it takes.
Only in rare backordered instances have things taken longer than we expected - and it was still ok even after waiting a bit for it.

No, prime is free two day shipping. It has nothing to do with how long it takes for them to ship it. Most of the time when I see the difference is between items purchased that are through Amazon warehouses and items shipped from vendors. Generally if it comes from an Amazon warehouse it ships in a couple hours.

Just curious, do you complain when it comes the next day?

It's just the wording that we read and misinterpret. It *sounds* like they are saying it'll arrive in 2 days. But that isn't what they are saying, or promising. Once you get the email saying "your item has shipped" you can start counting. But it could sit for a few days being processed before it actually ships.
I tend to get confused b/c we also have a B&N membership and they have a similar policy. But I think the details are more closely aligned with what Amazon's Prime policy *sounds* like.

And beware holidays. That always throws a wrench into my shipping calculations. :P

it all depends upon location. I have an Amazon warehouse less than 10 miles from my house....I can get same day delivery IF it's in stock and it's THERE....

It is usually two business days (M-F not weekends) and when it ships.

Most things I have ordered through Amazon Prime or just Amazon have come quickly, it could have been held up due to weather, etc..

Interesting...I thought as long as it said PRIME you got it in two days. But I know sometimes items come from further away, so it takes longer. I try to make sure I order with plenty of time in case it takes longer.

I was confused about that, too, at first. You are not alone.

Some items have a lag/processing time and usually that's displayed on the item before purchase. I've gotten items with free shipping...from China...and had to backtrack. If you realize the error before the item ships, you can easily cancel. I find that most of the time Prime is on time or ahead. You can also sign up for text alerts so you see when it ships and if there are any delays. Prime = 2 day shipping but not 2 day processing.

Well, what if you order something and it's in China? There isn't any way it can physically be to you in 2 days. It physically takes longer.

I do think that having a stateside 2 day shipping promise is great. I enjoy knowing my items are going to be there quickly.
