Hi there, I would really appreciate any help with this subject. My son is 1 week short of 8 months and he is already getting his 3rd tooth! He won't sleep and he's never happy unless we hold him. What can I do to get him to bed at a decent hour and so I don't have to get up 2-3 times a night? Any help would ne greatly appreciated!

What can I do next?

When my daughter was teething I went to Walmart and got the Orajel Teething Swabs. They look like q-tips but when you snap one end the medicine goes into the cotton on the end. I used that and a dose of tylenol and she slept like an angel. A couple of my friends have taken my advice and agree that it works.

We gave our little guy baby Tylenol and then would hold a ice cube in his mouth for him since he could hold a teether yet. That seemed to really help him fall asleep. Once he was asleep he would stay asleep.

Hi V.,
Have you tried infant Tylenol? Before bed, I would rub my daughters gums with baby Orajel (the pre-packed ones in a q-tip are great!), then I would give her an appropriate dosage of Tylenol. If it were a bad night, then I would give her another dose when she awoke. (The Tylenol can take about 30 minutes to start working.)
We also keep a few of her baby washcloths in the freezer (wet them, wring them out, and place in a baggy). She loved to suck on these to relieve her toothaches.
Good luck!

I did the exact same thing as Nikki. I started with a little Orojel if she was just cranky, but if it were a pretty bad day and I knew falling asleep was going to be a problem, I'd use some infant Tylenol and that helped.

I've also heard that a tooth pokes through the gums twice. The first time it comes through it breaks the gums and the gums swell up and the tooth needs to break through again. Ouch!

Good luck!

the company who makes little tummies gripe water also has a teething gel made just for babies. I used it with my son when he was cutting his first tooth and plan on using it again if need be when the others come in.

I was told by pediatricians not to use Orajel. I think Motrin works the best for teething pain. I only use it when I am really sure she is teething. My daughter didn't have really any problems with her first 8 teeth (we would just notice that they came up). The molars were really bad, but with a little motrin didn't effect her sleep at all.

Having had 2 boys teething, one now almost 3 and my newbie is 6 months. What I have found that works the best is..

1. HYLANDS TEETHING TABLETS (wal-mart has them) they are the BEST! There are all natural, no chemicals or side effects. They are homeopathic. (this company has a great line of products for lots of ailments, and most important they WORK!)
Michele Q..summed it all up in one word, magical, I like that.

2.Everyone here has said it, I will second the motion of
INFANTS TYLENOL/MOTRIN

3.This time around what works too for me is FROZEN WAFFLES! My little guy chomps on those. We got some cute pictures from that experiment:)
Hang in there, keep up the good work, this too shall pass
