Puppies and Fleas

In a book by Joey Green it's recommended to make a shampoo with equal parts of apple cider vinegar and Dawn dishwashing liquid; lather well and rinse clean. Follow up daily (until the fleas are gone) by putting a few drops of Dawn in a bowl of water, dip a flea comb into the liquid and comb through the puppy's hair. Another suggestion is to dampen a cotton ball or soft cloth with olive oil and rub into the coat; it's supposed to drown the fleas and will also moisturize dry, irritated skin.
Once you get the fleas off the puppy, you may still have to bug bomb the house if your carpets are also infested :(

diatomaceous earth can be used everywhere when my dogs had bad fleas I put it on them, their bedding, outside.....everywhere. it is cheap but you can't get it wet, it makes the house dusty, but is not harmful to anyone. it did work but I had to apply sever times a day to keep the fleas at bay good luck

We were told to use the citrus scent of Dawn on ours. Then we took them to Petco to be groomed and they were happy little campers. Recommend that, if you have one close. The puppy package is only $29.

Sorry but anything other than chemicals will not keep the fleas off your puppies. Same with heartworm. We use revolution on our dogs. It's just a small squirt of solution between their shoulder blades once a month. We've never had a flea, and never had a problem or reaction to the topical.

Fleas are horrible for animals to deal with, and can cause other medical problems. Once you get them in your house it will take lots of effort to get rid of them. Best to use something on your dogs to repel them.

I would use frontline or a similar product if you are in a flea prone area, and if the puppy is already infected and has been in your home you will need to treat the entire house with something at the same time, for if even one flea is in your carpet you will have an infestation in no time.

Our dog takes a monthly pill called Comfortis. It works great and at least we don't have to deal with poisons directly on the skin (mine or doggie). You can get it from your vet.

It's powerful and pup only needs it once a month.
