has anyone gone in to protest their home appraisals in denton county? 2 years ago, I was able to go to the Dallas CAD and protest my home there. I don't know if I can do the same in Denton or if I HAVE to mail in the protest.

anyone who has gone through a protest in denton county... please share your wisdom. I think I have a pretty strong case, I just want to know if I can go in (instead of mail it in) and what the process is.

What can I do next?

I work at a tax consulting office. The deadline for denton county is june 13th. You can go in to protest if you want instead of mailing it. If you want advice on how to do this yourself you can call us at ###-###-####. We can tell you if you value is where it should be or if you do have a reason to protest. Good luck!

Good luck to you is all I can say. My hubby spent 4 hours there, trying to protest. The lady at the front desk said she'd lower it by 3K (our appraisal went up nearly 32K) or we could take it to the board. So, my hubby took it to the board. The board threatened to impose even more taxes on us and in the end, after 4 frustrating hours, nothing changed (we didn't even get the 3K off). It's a crazy thing that makes absolutley no sense at all. They base it of comps of what houses in your area sell for. And, for course, they take the highest comps because it makes them more money.

the first year i mailed mine in and they gave me a time and date to be there. unfortunately the date conflicted with something else and i missed it. they would not reschedule. this year i mailed in my protest...they called me and we came to an agreement over the phone. i think i'll be attempting that again this year. everybody i know in denton county that has attempted to protest in person has lost! good luck!

We are protesting ours, but I think you have to mail it in. The deadline is May 31st or 30 days after you received the information. Ours wasn't mailed until May 14th, so I'm enclosing a copy of the postmarked envelope with our protest.

Deadline to protest taxes was May 31. I hope you got it mailed or to them by last week. It sounds like you haven't been in Denton county that long, have your realtor pull comps of similar sold homes in your neighborhood. If you have owned your home less than 12 months pull your HUD settlement statement from closing and show them how much you paid for it-they shouldn't go too much if any above that.
