Protein Powder Suggestions....

So I am trying a protein powder for after workout reasons. I am doing a trial run with it to make sure my body can tolerate it and to see if I notice the desired results (mostly energy in the early part of my day and a fuller feeling then as well..anything else is an extra really). I am up and at the gym at 5:00am M-F for weight lifting and cardio (an hour total), and I have serious loss of energy all day (am sort of a low energy person to start with).

Anyhow, I am not a milk person, so part of my battle is making sure my belly and taste buds tolerate it. So far the taste is putting me off, so am looking for very very low calorie ways to attempt to "enjoy" this. Any suggestions for the easiest way to get it in with minimal calories and fuss? I have the vanilla flavor as I figured it was more versatile than Chocolate (its whey powder).

Thanks!

What can I do next?

I love Shaklee's protein drinks. I have had one everyday for almost 17 years. They have a whey meal replacement if you like that flavor. The Cinch shakes come in other flavors, too--strawberry, chocolate and cafe latte. Or you and get the Energyzing Soy in chocolate or vanilla.

Vega, it's vegan but good for anyone.. It's a product by Brendan Brazier. He's a vegan and is a Triathlete. he came up with with Vega, when he himself couldn't find a good PURE (no dairy, animal product) energy source to keep him going. Apart from his mostly raw food diet, this stuff is suppose to really give an athlete the energy they need. I have tasted it and it's not for everyone.. you gotta like the whole GREEN food and veggies thing (which I do) it doesn't have any garbage in it or many calories..
check it out at Wholefoods.. They sell it by the packet so you don't have to buy an entire box.. see if you like it and if it actually works for you..
also, Larabars are also good in that it's raw food source..
Additionally, people like Tim Van Orden (a raw food athlete) has clips on youtube as to what he does for energy.. and what energy drinks he uses. he tends to do REAL green juice smoothies.. he is very interesting..
before becoming a raw foodist, he ate junk and was sluggish.. now, in his 40s.. he is a full on athlete.. does all sorts of sports.. he's a lean , mean fighting machine.. check him out..

best of luck to you

I've found that the Whey protein powders taste better with an ice base, meaning that you use ice in your blender, protein powder, and a 1/2 cup - 1 cup of fruit. Otherwise the egg white protein powder is generally very good.

I use products from a top nutritional company that has pioneered the work in nutrition, hydration, and muscle repair/recovery. I can work out 6 days a week, and my husband can run 40 miles a week (up from 12). It's all food (but not milk based), and it's balanced with all the vitamins, minerals, trace elements, phytonutrients (plant-based), and more. The thing I like, besides the products, is that a consultant from the company follows you during the first few months (no charge) on whatever basis you want, helping you to tweak the product amounts if needed. There's a 30 day guarantee too.

We have tried about half a dozen different protein powders and I just don't like the taste. There's only one that I, and everyone in my house, loves! It's made by Optimum Nutrition, Inc. and comes in a black tub. It says 100% WHEY PROTEIN on the front with a small ON logo. It is Vanilla Ice Cream flavor.
Most powders can be mixed with milk or water or juice. My son does half milk half water. My husband and I use unsweetened plain almond milk. It is lower in calories and better for you. And, I like to add a splash of orange juice to it - gives it that orange cream taste! yummm!!!

Herbalife has great products.
They have a nutritional shake that has about 15 grams of protein itself. Or they have personalized protein powder or a protein shake. They have tons of other products that you could probably benefit from as well.

Here's the catalog. You should check it out :)

I use Reliv ProVantage. I love the taste as well as what it has done for me. 90 Calories in one serving so not sure if that is low enough for you. I mix this with the Reliv Innergize which hydrates me with my work outs and also tastes great - especially mixed with ProVantage. My energy is at an all time high but i also use the daily nutrition that Reliv offers. I know I sound like an advertisement for Reliv but they just recently came out with a healthy energy drink called 24K. It won the "People's Choice Award" which is huge and deserves the award. Those that are using 24K along with their workouts are noticing huge increases in their work outs and recoveries. Incredible stuff. Here is a link to the ProVantage information. http://www.reliv.com/US/EN/Reliv-Provantage-Performance-N... You can check out the other products from there too.
I live south of St Paul so if you want to connect send me an email back. Hope you find what you are looking for!

Herbalife makes some good powder shakes which I then mix with a whey protein mix (target-generic), plus fruit and low fat plain yogurt. That way you can't taste the protein powder.

Otherwise I'll mix just the PP with ice, mango and pineapple fruit, passion fruit juice and low fat yogurt-basically an exact replica of the new smoothie at mcdonald's. WITH the PP it's a bit thicker and not quite as good so I've been making it without. I drink it every morning and it keeps me full and feeling alert until lunch.

I have used Spirutein protein powder for years. I don't like the taste of the whey version, but the regular version with a mix of proteins. I use the vanilla. I do mix it with milk or a combo of milk and orange juice. You could just mix it with juice. I also sometimes add a little fruit. The coops in the Minneapolis area sell it.

I started drinking it when I was training for many hours a week in karate. I then found that it makes the perfect breakfast for me, who needs protein but doesn't like to eat a lot in the morning.
