Just wanted some input. I am looking to have the carpets cleaned as new baby is due any day now. I was wondering if the Rug Dr rental was worth it? We have a large dog so any input on how it does with pet stains would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

What can I do next?

Pay for a professional to clean it! I have used both routes and you will never be able to adequately rinse the chemicals out yourself - you need MUCH more power to do it than what a "home" carpet cleaner can provide. We use Travis Carpet Cleaners and they are the BEST and they are REALLY reasonable - seriously! I called around and the going rate was CRAZY! He does my ENTIRE house for less than $200 and our house is over 3500 square feet! His phone number is ###-###-####.

I have always had mine professionally done, but I don't know much about the rentals. I hope you are not planning on doing it yourself if you do rent the machine!!! Sorry--I am (30 weeks) pregnant too--just being a little protective of a fellow pregnant girl!! Good Luck with your delivery!!!!

When we moved, we cleaned the carpets ourselves with the Rug Doctor. Rather, I cleaned the carpets b/c my husband had already started working here. It took a while, as you only have a certain amount of water and have to constantly refill the tank. We did not have any horrible pet stains, and overall I was pretty happy. It made the carpet look fresh, but I never felt like it was truly clean. I still had some spots that came out with carpet stain remover spray. I LOVE Resolve and Unbelievable for pet stains. But if you have a baby due any day, pass that job along to someone else! :-)

If you decide to get a rental, make sure someone else does it. The machines are very loud! I had to wear ear muffs (like my husband wears at the gun range) because it was so loud.

Use a professional. Don't use Stanley, Kiwi, etc. Those people are hired off the streets, quickly trained and change jobs FREQUENTLY!! Use a smaller, individually owned company. An Owner / Operator has more to gain and more to lose, so they are driven to make a life long customer out of each person they work for. My brother is an Owner/Operator and he has the same clients coming back time and time again to have their carpets, furniture, tile and car interiors done. He HAS to do a good job and works hard to make every customer happy. Word of mouth is the best advertising for him. If you want to call and talk to him he'd be happy to give you a quote and answer any questions.
Good luck!

I have my own carpet cleaner (Bissell Pro Heat) that I swear by.

I do understand your circumstances with being pregnant. I am not one to use a rental. You get someone else's dirt.. UGH

I am not a fan of the pro's because.....I know the machine was used in someone else's house, the rep wants to "sell" me more services than I need to make more money and the quality of the job is not up to par for what I can do myself with my Bissell. I am on my 2nd Bissell.

I have used Dalwarth, Kiwi and Stanley Steemer. All leave carpets smelling fresh but some stains are just raked over. Of the 3 I used which are mentioned above, I have used Dalworth the most. I still dislike the policy that they sub contract. One time some white van showed up at my house and I did not let him in until I confirmed that he was a contract worker for Dalworth.

IF I need a FAST FIX, I will go with Dalworth. If not, I do it myself. Remember those rental machines have been everywhere and that is just gross. I don't want to bring that into my home.

I have 3 dogs. Not many pet stains but I use the ZEP aerosol can from Home depot and it works wonders. It even got red wine out of my white carpet.
