Anyone have any problems experiencing yeast infections after getting the Mirena IUD? I have had the IUD since last November and since January have had LOTS of yeast infections. Yuck!!! I have been on different over the counter products and products from the obgyn. My doctor thinks it is a possiblity that my body soesn't like the IUD and is reacting. I am thinking of getting it taken out. Has anyone else had a similar experience? (By the way, I have only had ONE yeast infection in my life before this year.)

What can I do next?

W., Yeast infections are usually caused by too much sugar in our diet. Drink a lot of purified water and completley cut out sugar for a while and your yeast infections should go away. I too suffer from them especially when I'm not careful of what I eat.

I had a Mirena IUD put in after having my fisrt baby. Within one week I felt a huge change in my hormone levels. I was more tired than I have ever been, almost lethargic. I keep thinking that it was just from the baby but as time went on my symptons got worse and then my hands started going num. I had never had health problems ever before in my lifetime so I knew it had to go immediately. One week after taking it out I was back to normal. Since going through that experience I have talked to many other woman that have experienced problems. If you are having issues like that, I would have it taken out. Peace of mind is everything for Mom's since we are usually the last to get taken care of.

I didn't have the Mirena, but another IUD, and had horrible problems with it, to the extent that they thought it would prevent me from having more kids. It tore me and I bled so bad and originally they couldn't figure out what was wrong. I ended up in the ER because I couldn't even walk and was bleeding so bad, they talked about doing a blood transfusion.
After talking with my Dr. (a different one put the IUD in) he advised me that he is against IUD's and will not put them in, if one of his patients wants them, he refers them to another Dr. in his office for that. I wish I had spoken to him about it before I had gotten mine, because I never would have done it.

I'm not on it, but I have had 3 friends that have been. Within a couple of months of its insertion, they had it removed. One had severe cycle issues, one was thought to have Endometriosis as a result, and another had yeast infections. I don't think they work too well, without a lot of side effects. Talk to your doctor about using something else, even if its another IUD, and get this one removed. I think Mirena needs to be tested more or taken off the market. It seems to do more harm then good for everyone I have known to use it.

Good luck!

Go to Whole foods and get vitamin b12 with folic acid in liquid form. It comes with a dropper. Take 2 drop fulls every day and it will get rid and prevent yeast infections. It worked for me and countless of other women. It's worth a try. It's only about $11 and it will give you energy as well.
A woman's body goes through many changes every 7 years. It could be that your body is lacking this vitamin so it will make you more vulnerable to these type of infections.
Doctors won't tell youthis because they want to make $$$$. I have the mirena and had the same issue. Give the vitamins 3 days to kick in. On the 3rd day I went in and the doctor coudn't find anything at all.

I agree...take it out!!!! I had very similar problems as Melissa. I thought that it was the best thing ever as far as birth control went. But my health went down hill so poorly over two years that they even sent me to an oncologist to see if I might have cancer (lymphoma or something similar). Then I had a specialist who asked about when I had my Mirena put in, and it completely coincided with when I began to become ill (I was always healthy before that). I had it taken out and within one month, I was feeling so much better. During this, I became part of a class action law suit against the makers of (and many other entities) of the the Mirena. Don't do it! I would have my husband use condoms for the rest of my life rather than do that again!

I had teh Mirena IUD between my 5 year old and my 3 year old and I had a yeast infection for 3 months straight! I tried everything to get rid of it and the docs finally had to remove it. Once it was removed and I used a prescrition med the infection went away. I tried eveything while it was in tho, like the driking lots of water, eating yogurt and all kinds of different stuff the docs told me to try to no avail. Good luck and hopefully you get some relief soon!

IUDs do not belong in your body!
AND yes! your body is trying to tell you that!
Have it removed before it gets worse!

W. - I know that this can be a problem for some women that get the Mirena IUD and you may have to get it removed. I have had the Mirena IUD for a year and a half and have had no problems and absolutely love it. I do have a friend that had it though and she had similar issues to what you are having and had to have it removed. After having it removed she did not have any more infections. It is probably your body's way of rejecting it. Good luck!
