Has anyone ever used an attorney that took the case as pro bono? To find an attorney that will accept a case this way, do you have to go through legal aid? Does this only cover the attorney cost or does it cover court costs as well? Any experiences would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

So What Happened?

Thanks everyone - I wasn't clear in the type of atty I was looking for. It's employment related (w/comp, etc) and from what I understand, employers can do pretty much anything they want so I'll probably just drop it anyway. The burden of truth & justice is most often on the innocent w/ no money! lol Thanks for the tips - I appreciate your replies!

Typically you do need to go through legal aide to obtain access to attorneys that work on a pro bono or a sliding scale fee. In my experience (I'm a paralegal), they do not cover or discount court fees since they would never be able to "write" that off -- they have to be paid. They simply discount the fees for their services or their hourly rate. Most will not cover anything complicated just issues that are "cut and dry". Good luck.

You can usually get legal help with a womens battered shelter. That is if your looking for someone that will help with a custody or domestic dispute.

I do not know what type of legal council you seek - but if it has to do with business S.C.O.R.E. (which can be contacted through your local Chamber of Commerce) can arrange for free legal advice regarding business.

Good luck,

I tried- it was lengthy and I went through all the steps. Took a lot of time and waiting. My court date came up before someone was assigned and the judge basically laughed at my request for an extension to come back with a "legal aid" lawyer. He advised me it would be worse for me to come back with one. I later received a call after being told they would take my case that they would not. It was a total waste! I would advise against such headache and humiliation on you too!

Find an attorney that will not make you pay unless you win. Call the labor board.

I used to be a WC claims rep. Most WC attorneys will take your case on contingency, you don't pay until you get paid.
Most will also give a free consultation. It's worth it to at least see someone to find out if you have a case, and if you're dealing with on-going medical issues they can be very beneficial.
