I'm helping host my best friends baby shower, i'm in charge of the games. I need some ideas for 'prizes' for the winners. I know some people think the prizes should be baby stuff to be given to the mom but all items used in the games will go to her so i don't think thats an issue. i'm trying to spend under $15 per prize but have no clue what to do. HELP!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

I decided to go no traditional and bought $5 lottery scratchers as the prizes. Everyone seemed to like it. Thanks for all the ideas.

When we hosted our friends shower, we went to the dollar store, dollar tree and places like that. This just took place about two weeks ago, and we took our gifts and wrapped them in some paper and just let them pick the gift they won. One was some picture frames, one was a fall door hanger, and one was a light blanket. I think total it came to about 20 dollars. The guest loved themand the were CHEAP. No one expects expensive stuff, they just enjoy playing the games with everyone. Don't stress, just know how much you want to spend and shoot for all the gifts falling in that range. We all had fun with one another!

My mother and I just cohosted a shower for my sister who is pregnant with twins. Mom decided to do dual gifts: Each winner picked blue gift to be given to Jill (my sis), and a green gift for themselves. It was a bit of overkill! Anyway, if you want to give real gifts, some of Mom's included notepads, tea for two gift sets, and other odds and ends. I didn't get to see them all since I was busy hostessing, too. I think bath items (bath gel or bath fizzies) make good little gifts, too.

I would use these like gift cefs, or lotions and creams slippers, a book on tape she might enjoy but not get to read with a new baby.

How about scented candles or $10 gift cards to Bath and Body Works, Old Navy, Target etc. Yummy scented lotions would be a good gift with dry winter skin coming on. Have fun!

As we all welcome a new life into the world we sometimes forget about the mommy to be.One of the neatest gifts I got at my baby shower was all about me, included were a pair of slippers, sented candles, a laundry hamper, a nice nightgown to ware in the hospital.I am sure you can come up with a ton of other small things for mom to be. I hope that this is some help to you. Have a Happy Shower. Good Luck!

What about just giving $10 gift cards? you could do several different places or restaurants or Books-a-Million, or just do WalMart - everybody loves extra $$$ to spend on themselves! You don't have to be extravagant, just a little something. Just a thought!

Hey M.,
After reading some of the responses, I agree with the Gift Card Idea-why don't you just get some $10 gift cards when you are out and about-Walmart, Hobby Lobby, Grocery Store, Bath N Body works and let the winners "choose" which card they would like-also, cards purchased for Walmart can also be used at Sams and lots of Malls have gift cards that can be used at Most stores in the mall (check on this if you go with it, some of them have fees associated w/ their Gift Cards, call the Mall Office during the week and they can give you the scoop).
I hope this helps-also, could you send/post a list of the games you are using I want to give my first baby shower for a friend in a couple of months...

M., Have you ever heard of the candy bar game? Its a game where they get a prize just for matching the right candy bar. Its really a fun game and has always been the "talk" of any baby shower I've been to. I think if you google baby shower games you can find it.
Also good baby shower gifts are lotion sets, scented candles, and seasonal decor -- like if the shower is in November you could get a really cute "harvest" thing at Hobby Lobby same with Christmas and they are not exspensive. Hope this helps. Good luck

I make a product called the Toss-Me-Not Sippy Cup Holder and it's great for people with babies or toddles because it prevents your little one from dropping it or throwing it on the floor.

It's only $10.00 and you can choose whatever fabric you want. It comes professionally packaged & it may be a great and unique prize for Mom's at the party. I can ship it out asap to insure it gets to you in time.

You can check them out here... http://thepitterpatterboutique.com/category_14/No-Throw-S...

At my shower, the hostess had a Memory-type matching game, with terms like "father," "epidural," "hospital bill," and so on. If a player made a match, she got a candy bar that punned on the term - "Sugar Daddy," "Lifesavers," and "100 Grand" for the preceding examples. People didn't really care about the prizes; they had fun playing the game and trying to guess what the candy prize would be. Here's a link I found with candy suggestions: http://www.cutest-baby-shower-ideas.com/baby-shower-game-... You have to scroll down about 1/3 of the page to The Candy Bar Game.

Gift cards sound nice, too; although I personally was never interested in candles or lotions. I have tons around the house that I won as favors that I have never used. I save the candles for if the power goes out. But a gift card to a book store or to Amazon.com is rather flexible. Or magnetic notepads for grocery lists.

M.; I've been to a few baby showers that they did the same thing; played games and gave prizes to the winners. Just a few things that I noticed were; gift certificates to different places, places that women love, Bed, Bath & Beyond, Starbucks, Victorias Secret, etc.....

You can also get some "lotion sets", small boxes of sample perfume (you know they have 4 small bottles of perfume) nail polish, makeup, etc. You can also go to Claires in the mall and get really cheap sets (but look nice)of jewelry, you know, matching earrings & necklaces. Also, at Dollar General, you can get allot of cute things; candles, the pretty mesh "incense bags" to put in your car or in your drawers, etc....hope this helps & have fun!!

At my baby shower they had little things like candles and lotions. Several of the women that attended didn't have kids so they tried to avoid prizes that would really only be good for moms.

If the gift is going to the mom, id give things she will definatly need, one gift thats a little more then 15 would be an ear thermometor. Mine was 17. I got it with a gift card i recieved at my shower. Diapers is another great one. Especially a bag in different sizes. Newborn, 1, 2, 3. I got all of those at mine and I just had to buy my first bag myself recently. I enjoyed that! I got enough diapers at shower to not have to buy any for more then 4 months. Thats a great deal for a new mom. The dollar store idea is a good one too, you could make a gift pack, thats just for her, and one for baby too. Ours has the new set for bathing to help the baby sleep. It was a blessing for me. Mine got days and nights confused! Oy! lol

I just did a baby shower and you can go on line and go to google and type free baby shower games and several will come up. You just print them out. I got 3 games from there and all i have to do was buy a prize for the winner. You always get the gift for the mom or baby to be. Someone else will win but they give the gift to the mom. Like get a bottle, bibs, wash clothes. Something for the baby or even the mom. You do announce ahead of time that winning the gifts we will present it to the mom.

At my baby shower they did the same sort of thing. Each gift had a baby toy for me and something small like a nice smelling candle or lotions from Bath & body or even lip glosses. Something that most women would like, but simple at the same time. Hope your shower is great fun! You'll do great!
