I am moving to the Rossmoor area this August... we just found out we were moving and will be making several trip that way this summer to purchase a home etc. I will be looking for preschools for my almost four year old son as well. Does anyone have any suggestions for a favorite preschool. Thanks so much!!

Hi K. - I would also recommend Rossmoor Children's Center in Los Alamitos - I have my son there now and has been there since he was 2 - he's now 4 - and had my daughter there who is now in Kindergarten at LAE - she had been there since she was 2 - A terrific Preschool and they learn soooo much! The teachers are wonderful as well as the School Directors and support staff. I would recommend a Tour there and see what you think. Good luck with your move and your Preschool decision.

My son went to Sonshine PreSchool... it's not in Rossmoor, it's in Cerritos, just a few miles away. It's a small Christian PreSchool. We loved it, and plan to send our daughter there.
It's worth checking out. It's on the corner of Norwalk Blvd & Del Amo Blvd. Diagonal from Artesia High School.

The Child Development Centers through Los Alamitos S.D. at Weaver Elementry School, Lee Elementry, Rossmoor Elementry, and McGaugh Elementry schools are all great. They usually have a waiting list, so you can also try Rossmoor Children's Center in Los Alamitos. They are all wonderful schools. I would start getting him on waiting lists now. Best of luck.

It's not Rossmoor but probably about 15 minutes. The JCC (Jewish Community Center) has an amazing pre-k program. We are not Jewish however my step-son attended there and received a great head start for kindergarten and now GATE 1st grade. His teacher's have commented on his great foundation.

The JCC is a little bit expensive but very clean and the staff is great too.

Great Beginnings in Long beach is AWESOME. We live in Rossmoor too and it's a bit of a drive (about 10-15 minutes depending on traffic usually) but totally worth it. The kids learn so much about animals, life cycles and basic science type stuff. My 4 year old learned (and remembered) which animals have 4 stomachs and how both bats and whales use echolocation to navigate! They don't do work on letters or numbers which seems odd at first, but the amount of "concepts" the kids absorb and work through in one year is amazing.

You do have to get on a waiting list but you may luck out since your son is older. I found out about the school late and only got our son on the list when he was 3 1/2 (some people sign their kids up at birth). We were fortunate and they were able to take him this past summer. Occasionally people who are on the list for so long have their kids go other places, and when and if a slot does open up they decide they don't want to pull their child out of the other program. You can do full day programs, 5 days a week, do half days or alternate days.

So Great Beginnings would be my #1 pick but there are also a few preschools at the elementary schools here in Rossmoor. At Hopkinson and Weaver I think?

Hi,
My daughter goes to Rossmoor Childrens Center. SHe loves it there. I wouldn't say the teachers are lovey, dovey so much with the kids but they are nice , caring and have a good program. We especially like it because they have a swimming pool on site!!!! The kids can take lessons and they get free swim in the summer I think on Fridays.
