I'd appreciate any feedback on preschools in Schaumburg - especially experiences with the Schaumburg Park District program and Prince of Peace's preschool as we're looking at options for our daugther who'll be 3 in July. Any other favorites?

My daughter has been at ECEC, the Early Childhood Education Center at Roosevelt University, since she was 15 months old and will be starting kindergarten in the fall. Her teachers have been fabulous, she has learned so much and has formed good friendships. The teachers give the kids lots of love and guidance and also teach them to be independent.

My daughter has been in the Schaumburg Park District Preschool program this year and we are signing her up again. She LOVES it! The teachers are great. She has so much fun that she cries if she can't go to school because she is sick! She has learned a lot and the are a nationally accedited school. They have a class called "Taste of Preschool" which is a one day (1 hour I believe) where you and your child come to class and the kids get to play and the parents can talk to the teachers and ask questions. You can go to the park district website at www.parkfun.com and search for it. Good luck!

I give RAVE reviews to Creative Beginnings Preschool, which is just around the block from the Pat Shepherd center. Their website is www.cbpreschool.com Give them a call to schedule a visit and observe them in action. I think they just opened enrollment for next fall. Currently my third child is attending there. My older children were incredibly well prepared for kindergarten and had a wonderful experience. The curriculum is thought through so very well, and all of the crafts, snacks, and toys out for play are integrated into their themes. They have fun field trips and visitors who come in to help the children learn more about their themes (such as a veterinarion who visits during the animal unit, a trip to the orthodontist during the dental unit, etc.). You will have the same teachers both years, so continuity is guaranteed. These are very experienced teachers who are committed to and absolutely love the children. Once when my daughter was very ill, they actually made us meals, called every day to check up on us, brought over presents, etc. They truly go above and beyond in my opinion. I will say up front that they are definitely more expensive than the park district. I have found the additional investment to be very worthwhile.

Hi S.,

I don't mean to confuse your choice but please consider Creative Beginnings in Schaumburg. The two ladies who run it are the nicest, most nurturing people I've met. They run a structured program with a lot of interesting things for the kids to do. My daughter LOVES going.

Their addr is 1451 W. Bode Road It is in the basement of Church of the Holy Spirit but is not affiliated with the Catholic church. ###-###-####. www.cbpreschool.com The 3 year old program runs Mon and Tue. Either 9:15a-11:30 or 1:00-3:00p.

They are accepting new family registrations now so feel free to call for a tour.

Hi,
We signed up for Schaumburg Park District and are very happy with it. I can't see spending a penny more b/c it's everything we could ask for. The teachers are fantastic, and ours have been with the program for years. They have so many options for ages, times, too. Something for everyone!
We don't even live in Schaumburg but I plan to pay the out of district fee again next year, this time for my two oldest kids.

I'd really encourage you to check out Holy Family Catholic Academy in Inverness. It offers just the right mix of nurture and structure. It's located on Palatine road, east of Barrington Rd. You'll be glad you looked into them!

Well, I give great reviews to Prince of Peace. My 5 1/2 year old daughter attended their school for two years before entering Kindergarten this past fall. She loved it and so did I. The teachers are all very caring and I think they've prepared my older daughter well for Kindergarten. In fact, I had her conference yesterday with her Kindergarten teacher and she's doing great. They also help in the "potty training" department if your child isn't completely trained going into preschool. Unlike the Schaumburg Park District's program, the teachers at Prince of Peace actually go into the bathroom with the children and help them to snap, zipper, unbotton, etc. When I looked at SPD for my older daughter, I was told that they do not even go into the bathrooms with the children. They are completely on their own for their bathroom needs in the SPD program. Maybe that has changed?? Anyway, my 2 1/2 year old daughter is signed up to attend Prince of Peace this fall. So, we are very happy and returning customers!

St Peters in Schaumburg has preschool and after school care. They have been awesome to me and the kids. They know the kids and take interest in them as people, not just numbers. I would highly recommend them!
