We are interested in preschools in west Plano, Far North Dallas, or west Richardson. Any recommendations? I know registration is currently going on in most preschools right now....

What can I do next?

I work at and my children attend Messiah Lutheran Lambs. They have a 2 day, 3 day or 5 day program. They are located at Plano Parkway and Custer.

Unfortunately, the really good school have already reached full registration and are setting up wait lists. Good luck! However, I am a preschool teacher and have seen happy well adjusted children who attended Bent Tree Preschool.

My kids attend a superb preschool in Richardson (but just barely east of 75--Beltline/Main at Grove). The Early Learning Center is small, but the teachers are top-notch and teacher turnover is next to nil. Classes are capped well below state requirements (my 3-yr-old is in a class of 8, and was NOT required to be potty trained for the 3-yr-old class, unlike most preschools). Registration is open now, and there should be a few spots left. Their number is ###-###-####, and please feel free to contact me for more info--I have my 21 month old at the same school, and she LOVES it (doesn't even look at me once she gets to her classroom). All the best to you in your decision!! One other thought: there's a Spanish Schoolhouse preschool at the Dallas Bible Church (although not affiliated with the church; just leasing space) on Hillcrest at Arapaho. I attend mommy/baby classes there, an my son will go there part-time next year, but I don't know much about the school yet--only that they do a full 9am-2pm preschool program, entirely in Spanish (except for a short lesson on English language). Just a thought...the window for truly learning a second language as a native speaker shuts down by about 6 or 7 years old, and I'm running to get my kids through the window now! Again, best wishes in your choices!

I would recommend looking at Prince of Peace Christian School. The school is located at Midway, just south of Park on the West side of the Tollway. My two boys have been in the preschool program there for two years and we love it. It is a great environment with loving and experienced teachers. They have preschool classes starting with 3 year olds that are 2,3 or 5 days.

Cambridge Academy, Carpe Diem, Octopus Gardens, Childrens' Courtyard are probably your best bets in your area.

You want to make sure the center is accredited by the NAEYC. This an optional accreditation that ensures that the center goes well above and beyond State Minimum Standards. Check all centers (specific locations, not just franchise names on the Texas Child Care Licensing website for violations AND ask to see their last inspection certificate-- centers must post them by law). Make sure you ask about ratios for the entire day including opening, closing, and naptime.

The key to a good Preschool is well treated, well paid teachers that have experience and have been at the center for a while. Turn over is a problem in the industry, but If every teacher you meet is relatively new-- there is problem with that center. Happy teachers make happy students.

We have LOVED Parker Chase on Marsh Ridge in far east Carrollton--easy to get to--not far from Willow Bend mall. They are like a family-so compassionate and with very little turnover. Although my son is now in kindergarten, he goes there on school off days and will be going there for summer camp. Please check it out!!

You can check www.savvysource.com. They should have a listing of all preschools in your area -- you can search by zip code. Some even have information from parents and directors.

My children have really loved Children's Choice in Richardson/Plano at George Bush & Jupiter. It's really a daycare but they have a curriculum and my children have learned a great deal since they have been there. Reasonable rates and flexible schedule.

My daughters went to Norkirk Preschool in Carrollton. I am also a preschool teacher there for 3 year olds. It is a small private school with a wonderful curriculum. We teach the ABC's, numbers, colors, shapes, socialization with others their age, etc. I also teach sign language in my class. Our 3 year olds meet 3 days a week from 9am-1pm. Our directors name is Diane and can be reached at ###-###-####.

My kids go to Waterview Christian Preschool in west Richardson. They love it, and it's quite reasonable compared to many preschools in the area.

There is a preschool program that is called Learn N Play provided by the Allen ISD. You can choose to have your child go two days out of the week or three days out of the week. I don't know if this is what you are looking for but here's the link to learn more about the Allen ISD Learn N Play program.

Hope this helps.

My oldest has gone to Creme de la Creme since he was 2 and loves it! It's on Plano Parkway almost to the Tollway. The children are not stuck in 1 room all day...they move every 30 minutes...for example Home Room, Spanish, Music, Art, Creative Movement, Language, Math & Science, Gross Motor etc. My son has learned so much. During the warm month they even have a zero depth water slide for the kids.
