Hello, I am located in Detroit, MI and my child is 4 years of age. I wanted to know what some of your experiences have been with places like ChildTime and KinderCare which are both in Southfield, MI on Greenfield Road. I have an appointment with ChildTime later in the week but when I asked how much the tuition was, they wouldn't tell me over the phone. I have to wait until I visit the site to ask all those questions. I need to know before hand in order for me to determine if I can afford it or not. Does anybody know how much tuition is there or KinderCare? Since I am a single mom, my funds are limited.

What can I do next?

I think it is about 150-200 a week... You should try a in-home daycare they are really good and the prices are not bad...My daycare cost are 120.00 a week and I love her in-home daycare....

Good Morning,

I'm also a single mother of a pre-schooler. Where do you live? I found that ChildTime & KinderCare were quite expensive. I send my daughter to St. Paul Lutheran Pre-school in downtown Royal Oak ( you do not have to be a member of the church). They are WONDERFUL there! My daughter & I love it! They are VERY reasonably priced too. They are open from 6:30 am to 6:30 pm. Give them a call! I think they may have some info on their website too. There rates are right around an average of 3.00 per hour. Write me back if you need more info!

Where are you located? If you are near St. Clair Shores, I would recommend MiniKampus. They are located on 13 mile between Little Mack & Harper - in the back end of St. Margaret's Catholic Church. (It is NOT a church run daycare, however.). Their prices were slightly less than the "chain" daycares, and they were FANTASTIC! My oldest son went there from the time he was 1 yr until 2 weeks before Kindergarten. He could, however, have gone to kindergarten there as well, if I had wanted.

Hi G.,
What Childtime are you looking into? I visited both teh Kindercare at Coolidge /Long Lake and Childtime on Crooks/Wattles and I liked Childtime better. I know people that love Kindercare though. I had issues with how open the place was...one room flowing into the next. Both provide food though. I'm in the midst of moving my 4 year old from Royal Oak to Troy. I think we're going to go with Norht HIlls. Its always so hard to make these decisions! Good luck!

I sent my kids to Great Beginnings. It's a single location - not part of a chain - owned by two moms. It's on 12 Mile near Drake in Farmington Hills. I LOVED it there.

Its hard to suggest somewhere else, when we don't know where you're located and how old your child is :)

These places are not cheap... I looked at a kindercare before and didn't really care for the one in Dearborn... I ended up taking my daughter (just before she turned 2) to Meadowbank in Riverview (Brownstown border).. It was awesome! I can't say enough good things about it..

The price however for both of these places depends on whether the child is potty trained or not.
For most of the places like this its $220 for a child that is NOT potty trained and drops to around $165-$175 for a potty trained child. This is for 5 days/full time.
Good Luck :)

Each school is run differently and charge different prices - you are looking at anywhere from $150 - $200 per week for one child. My daughter goes to Kindercare On Middlebelt in Farmington Hills and it costs $150 for 3 full days, this does include breakfast, lunch and two snacks and they are open from 6am - 6:30pm. She is very happy there and has learned a lot. Scout the net for special offers - Kindercare offers up to $200 to new enrollees if you are referred (or if you buy the Entertainment book, there is a $200 (free week) coupon in there).

I use the Childtime in Dearborn and have been very happy with it. I think the rates are ~$160/wk for older kids, and closer to $200/wk for babies. They provide breakfast, lunch and snack, and their hours are from 6:30am to 6pm for all one price. If I were to refer you and you were to go there, I think we would each get a free week. If you want more info, feel free to contact me.

My kids both go to Kindercare in West Bloomfield right now and we are happy there. I am sending my older child (3 1/2) to a full day preschool program this year instead though. A lot of the school districts offer full day pre-school with an aftercare option and might be a little less expensive. Have you checked southfield public schools yet? Also surrounding districts might have good programs too.
