I have been having big major tourble finding a preschool for my 4 year old son. We live in San Francisco. I have been trying since about Jan. and can't seem to get him in anywhere. They are always giving me run arounds and already filled up. I heard that S.F is having a big problem in getting 4 year olds into preschools.. not enough space for them.. I dont know what to do.. I am really gettign discouraged.. He goes to day care in the western addition right now. He will be 5 years old in Jan. He will start KG next year in 2009.. I feel like we are running out of time.. I have done everything i can think of.

Anyone know of any openings or know where to go for good preschools. Time is running out. I dont know what's going to happen if he does't go to preschool.. being in a structured environment.. working and playing with other kids is very important..learning how to interact with other kids. I am scared by him not being in a preschool, it will hinder him.

Please! Please ! Please..any one that can help ... u work at a preschool ..know someone.. anything... i would greatly appreciate it.

What can I do next?

I know a decent number of kids who went to Little Bear. Have you tried them? Also, try posting (or having friends who are members post) on parent lists in SF, such as neighborhood lists and/or the Golden Gate Mothers Associaltion list. There is a book that almost all the local book stores carry that outlines all the SF preschools. You might want to pick it up -- there are probably a lot of places you have not heard of yet. Best of luck.

Since they are all full have you tried the school districts to see what they are working out for those who need in? A transfer maybe to a surrounding city? Just a thought.

Neither of my kids went to preschool and they are both high achievers. Stressing is not necessary, they all catch up as soon as they are ready. My son went into kg without knowing his alphabet. I thought he was slow and that he'd have to repeat kg, but he learned them within weeks of starting and he's the second highest reader in his 4th grade class. He read Harry Potter at the end of first grade!! I was a stay at home mom so he didn't have that structured time and the interaction that other kids had, but we had lots of play dates and lots of hands on instruction from me and the social stuff came easily for him as soon as he went to school. He's a social butterfly now. Relax and see what you can find, if it's nothing, that's okay too. No kids get kicked out of kg because they don't know how to say their abc's or to sit in a circle. He will learn it as soon as he encounters it and he will be better off for not having been forced into it too early. Most kids aren't ready for such structure at 3 & 4 so be thankful he's not being forced into it too early.
