I'm hoping to find something (which they need i don't know) for my two daughters, ages 3yrs 9mos and 2yrs 8mos. Basically, they need a chance to be around kids their age. I don't know many people here so I try to bring them to different places (mall playareas, parks, mcdonald's) where they can play with other kids. I've looked into some places but they are so expensive and we're on a really limited budget. Especially since my son was born in february. I was thinking about going back to work part time but I don't want my infant in daycare and the person I had been planning on using didn't work out. So, since I don't have anyone that can watch my son, I can't really start working so I can't afford the places I was considering for the girls. I want some kind of program my girls can go to(even if it's only one day a week) without me, school like setting would be best I think, that is relatively inexpensive. I wish price wasn't an issue but it is and I haven't really found anything I can afford. The classes at the YMCA all seem to require that I be there and I don't have anyone to sit with my other kids. It's a frustrating mess and any help would be appreciated.

The city of Tempe offers free preschool through the Headstart program if your income qualifies. I would look into it -- I'm sure Mesa has something similar. Also, there are smaller private preschools that are much less expensive, and some retired teachers run them out of their homes.
I found a Lutheran one that was very reasonable but I haven't checked it out. http://www.kogaz.org/pages/preschool.htm
Most places also offer multi-child discounts.

My daughter attends preschool at North Canyon Preschool. It is in North Phoenix but I don't know have the same type of thing in Mesa. But, it is a preschool that is located at a high school. It is similar to a private preschool. They have a director and an assistant director. It is $300 for the year. They go for about 3 hrs a day Tues. Weds. and Thurs. from Sept-Dec then from Jan-May. The "catch" is that the high school students observe the preschool kids for there child development classes. I was a little concerned at first but, my daughter went last year and love it. It was a very positive experience and we will be attending next year too. The director and her assistant are great. They take take potty trained 3 year olds by Sept 1. They may take your 2 yr old since she is almost 3.

Also I sign my girls up for activities through the city. They have dance, tumbling, swimming, art and crafts etc. They are all very reasonably priced.

In the pass through the City of Phoenix (I am sure they have it in Mesa too) I have put my daughter in a class that is like a preschool setting where they learn basic letters and numbers.

Good Luck finding something in your area

Have you tried any of the programs through the parks and rec department. I am not sure where you are but the Town of Gilbert has some great options through the parks and rec at a GREAT price. http://www.gilbertrecreation.com/Start/Start.asp?SCheck=3...# Our favorite class so far has been Magical Mornings Preschool with Mrs. Miller. She is not teaching anything during the summer but I think she is starting class again in the fall. Good luck.
