Hello All,
I am looking to get my four year old daughter in a preschool. I tried to get her in the program at the local Public Schools but we were turned down.
Currently I am a stay at home mom but I want my daughter to be able to play with other kids and know about the school setting before she gets there. I want to make sure that she will know everything that she needs before she starts school next year.
T., All three of my boys went to preschool and LOVED it! They went full time and while many tried to make me feel guilty for it, it really helped! For my youngest, it helped him work out his wiggles and now in kindergarten he listens and understands the rules so much better. Even if all you can afford is a couple days a week, it will make a huge difference. Good luck!

I'm not sure what exactly your question is. Are you looking for recommendations about local preschools? I'm not in KY, so I can't help you with that.
When my children were little, I couldn't always afford private preschool, (and my daughter had some special needs). Some friends and I started a preschool co-op, taking turns meeting at ea other's houses and planning activities and field trips. It was a lot of work, but it was fun, and very rewarding. The internet makes it easier, both in finding developmentally appropriate and creative ideas, and in communicating with each other.
Many private or church preschools offer scholarships, if money is a concern of yours.
It's great you're concerned about your toddler's education. Have fun with her - you can give her the best basis for upcoming school years than anyone. There are so many wonderful ways to enrich both of your lives!
My daughter is in preschool at Lexington Christian its been great for her and they have various options. Crossroads Christian Church has a preschool program that I have heard great things about. I hope this helps.
Private schools usually have a pre-K but ofcourse can be expensive. Most daycares and MDO do premote an academic program at least for 4 yr olds. My son goes to a church MDO 2 days a week. Last year in the 3 yr rooms they covered letters, sounds, numbers, shapes, and colors. This year in the 4 yr rooms they're covering the same material as well as starting to write the letters and basic word recognition ex: "a, are, at, cat". I think he's well prepared already for school next year. The only adjustment will be from 2 days a week to 5 days a week.
My daughter is 2 1/2 & we started her in preschool 3 months ago. She only goes 2 days a week. It has been wonderful for my daughter. She is learning how to play/interact with her peers. As well as getting used to other adults as role models and authority figures. The primary teachers in the each classroom hold an early education degree. It is called Milk-n-Honey. It is not a daycare, although I believe some parents use it as one. Good luck!
Try a church's preschool program! If you can't get in anywhere, there public schools can give you a list of the things your daughter needs to know and you can work with her at home!
preschool usually costs money. Most parent Day out programs prepare children for kindergarten. My children went to one of the local churches here in Bowling Green, Ky. All programs are different.Your best bet is to call the churches, see if they offer a preschool program or Parent's Day Out program and go from there.

I am so glad that I happen to read your request! I think it is a great idea to put your daughter in a preschool. She needs to be ready for kindergarten next year and the only way to make sure that happens is for her to be in a preschool. I am the director of a great preschool in Wimington and we just happen to have a spot open up in our program recently. I would love to tell you all about it....Briefly, we are a morning program located on the northern end of Wilmington, near Gordon Rd. We are a Christian program that focuses on Christian education and preparing them for kindergarten. We use the Abeka curriculum, we work on phonics, pre-writting, math and language development each day. We are very affordable as well ($10 a day). Hi T.. We moved to Chattanooga 1 1/2 years ago and my son attended a MDO program at a local church 2 days a week last fall. We paid $150 a month for 2 days a week 9:00-2:00. This year my son goes to a preschool within the Church of Christ on E.Brainerd Rd. 3 days a week 9:30-2:00 for $170 a month. I'm not sure what area you live in but if you modify your question including your area you can get some suggestions on which schools are good. I also found that asking other moms while at the park worked well when it came to getting advice on preschools. This is how we found the one my son attends now and we have been very pleased. In case you are wondering, I haven't found that either of the church preschools my son has attended taught the doctrine of that pacticular denomination. They were both christian based but that was all. Please let me know if you have any other questions.
