Prenatal Vitamins Making Me Nauseated

This is my second pregnancy and this time the prenatal vitamins are making me very nauseated. I take them at night before bed but if I don't fall asleep right away, I still feel nauseaus. My 10 month old son sometimes wakes up at night and if I deal with him, I can feel it too. Actually, I just got done sleep training him so now I am the one that needs sleep training and honestly, I am awake a lot at night. The vitamins don't help matters when I'm feeling so terrible. I haven't tried taking them in the morning because I'm scared. I feel like I can't afford a whole day of nausea.
I go to the Dr. Monday and I'm planning on asking his advice but in the mean time, thought I'd see if anyone else had a remedy I could try!
Thanks!

I am not pregnant but I do have issues taking vitamins. I HAVE to have something in my stomach or I will get nausea as well. I try to take them with a meal and that helps a LOT.

Girl take them after you eat something. I always got sick if I didn't eat something right before I took them and I've had three kids. So eat a meal then take the vitamin

When I was pregnant with my daughter I got nauseated with them as well. So I took half of the pill in the afternoon (right after I ate) and then the other half at bedtime. It worked for me and I still got all my vitamins I needed for a health pregnancy. Hope this helps you.

Get lots of samples from your doctor and try them out. I liked the one that is a pink and blue capsule. I also liked the ones that were coated best - they went down a whole lot easier.

I have the same issue during my current pregnancy (currently 18 1/2 weeks). I never had morning sickness, only got nausea when I took the prenatal. I started taking my prenatal with breakfast or lunch and that keeps me from getting nauseated from it.

Are you also taking Iron pills? I had to with my pregnancy, what the OB didn't tell me was when my Iron was okay the pills would make me sick!
Also, my neighbor just had a baby in July, she didn't take prenatal pills either, her OB told her she could take Flintstone vitamins and she would get the same thing as she would in prenatal pills.

When I was pregnant with my 2nd my dr. prescribed a prenatal that was actually designed to reduce nausea. I had terrible morning sickness with him and these were the only one's I could keep down. Ask your doctor about them on Monday.

I am experiencing TERRIBLE morning sickness and my doctor said 2 childrens Flinstone Vitamins work just as well and usually are easier on your stomache. Worked for me. Worth a try! good luck!

I also was told by my OB (w/ my 1st pregnancy) to take Flintstones vitamins- on two separate occassions during the day- morning and afternoon or evening. This time around I took One Source Prenatal vits (found at Walmart). They are smaller pills, and you take two per day, so you can break it up, and take one in the morning/afternoon and one in the afternoon/evening. This helped with nauseousness.

I had a brand that did the same to me as well. I told my doctor and he switched it. The other one was much better. Just skip taking them and tell your doctor on monday.

I can't take vitamins at all... they upset my stomach. I tried all the difft. brands when I was pregnant-- they all made me want to hurl (even Flinstone). I sucked it up with my first (first pregnancy paranoia I guess) and even drank liquid iron at the end of my pregnancy (which did nothing to help my anemia). 6 months later I was pregnant again... this time, again, vitamins made me sick. So I stopped taking them. I figured I needed to be feeling well to take care of the baby I had at home. And yes, I had a healthy pregnancy and baby. Oh, I even drank a soda everyday!! :) Go with your gut.

I had the same problem. My doctor gave me a ton of samples of different brands to try. The last one I tried was called Duet and it worked. I bet your doctor will give you samples if you ask. Since I was throwing up most of the ones I was taking until I found one that worked, my doctor had me take a separate folic acid supplement which didn't bother my stomach during that time. Good luck.

I remember my sister (who is a histologist) told me not to take vitamins at night because it will interfere with your sleep. Seems like it was related to Vitamin D and Calcium but I can't remember for sure. I had better luck with mine taking them with lunch.

Blessings to you and congrats on your son and angel in the making.

I had a problem with the prenatal vitamins making me nauseated when I was pregnant. I talked with the doctor, and she approved me taking some over the counter ones. I chose the Spring Valley brand vitamins, and did not have a bit of trouble with nausea. I know that everyone's bodies are different, but those worked GREAT for me, and she said that they are every bit as good as the prescription ones. Another thing to try might be eating a couple of saltine-type crackers or a piece of dry toast when you take them. I never tried that, but the suggestion was made to me when I was feeling sick with the vitamins. Good luck, and hopefully this will pass soon, and you can enjoy being pregnant!! :)

I sell vitamins and I agree. Be sure to take them with a meal. And be sure it is a substantial meal, at least in the beginning. Your body will probably adjust.

Are you sure it isn't the pregnancy making you feel sick? When you wake up in the morning before you even lift your head from the pillow have some saltines waiting on your night stand. The salt in them will help calm your stomach.
