Prenatal Skin Care Recommendations

Hello,

I am looking for skin care products that are safe to use while pregnant. I know most are "safe" but I would prefer a line that doesn't have parabens. Specifically I am looking to avoid lots of chemicals and even I've heard that a lot of botanicals can be unsafe during pregnancy. Any recommendations for a facial moisturizer, facial sunblock and body/belly lotion?

Thanks!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Wow, thank you for all the responses. I can't believe how many responses I received - I'm still reading through them all! I'm not preggy - just aiming to get my body prepared for the next one and want to stop using skin care without any potentially hazardous ingredients in it. I checked out mineral make-up and I think I'll switch to it! Thanks again for all your responses.

I loved Shea Butter on my tummy. It helped with the itching from the skin stretching (only itched the first pregnancy!) and I was told it helps minimize stretch marks. I'm not genetically prone to stretch marks, so I don't know of my lack of them has anything to do with using the shea butter for both pregnancies. I buy it at L'Occitane and still use it as my primary hand cream.

For my belly i used coconut oil, you can buy it at a health food store. It is hard and needs to be warmed up to apply. I loved it and did not get one stretch mark (:

Check out the Environmental Working Group website's database called Skin Deep:

http://www.cosmeticsdatabase.com/splash.php?URI=%2Findex.php

Lots of product reviews for various products. Also, EWG's home page (ewg.org) has other consumer saftey information.

Good luck!

Check out the SkinDeepCosmetics.com website. They have a rating system for common ingredients listed on skin care products that will tell you how toxic they are and which products are safest. You might also check out your local healthfood store for natural lotions. Good Luck!

For your belly, breasts and whole body try sesame oil (they have small bottles at Henry's). It is very nurishing, safe, inexpensive and worked in preventing stretch marks for me. I used it once a day after a shower. Make sure you designate an old pair of jammies to wear when using the oil because over time it will give them a permanent odor. Best wishes!

My favorite is the Arbonne line. I don't sell it but you can find a rep online. Congratulations with your pregnancy! I'm glad you're taking care of you (especially with a sweet little boy to care for while pregnant)!

Hi there,

I sell Arbonne and have been a long time user way before my baby and used it all through my pregnancy. I've used the ABC baby care products on my little one since she was born. No Parabens, all natural ingredients, no preservatives and highly effective products.

NutriminC https://arbonne.com/shop_online/showCatalog.asp?category=219
(this line is a bit expensive but fabulous... I use them religiously... the Night Creme is the BEST)

Arbonne Baby Care https://arbonne.com/shop_online/showCatalog.asp?category=18
The sunscreen is fabulous! I use it on my daughter and have used it for myself for years and am super sensitive. It goes on super easy but works.

Skin Conditioning Oil https://arbonne.com/shop_online/showitem.asp?ProductId=73...
I used this on my growing tummy. It's a small container but a little goes a long way. They just changed the line name but it's essentially the same product.

To be honest, I'm a better user than a seller ;-) It's a great money making opportunity if you're good at sales. Basically I share them with all my friends and family and occasionally share them with others when they ask about my skin.

If you decide to order, you can go directly to the site and use my consultant ID#17558469. You can also call me if you have any ____@____.com luck :-)

Hi, some of the people here are giving great advice about lookng at the campaign for safe cosmetics, environmental working group database to see the companies that have signed the pact to manufacture safe products for consumers. Many of the companies advertising their business on this site still contain the known harmful chemicals and carcinogens and parabens, and I guess these people are just uneducated on the products they are using (mary Kay, Avon, Melaleuca, Arbonne). I found out about the chemicals in products over 11 years ago and saw a CBS news show about Neways Int., a 20 year old established manufacture of the safest products in the world. We have an entire baby line called Generations, without parabens, without harmful chemicals. www.ineways.com/positivehealthyliving. Safe, effective and affordable. www.pubicsright2know.org

Smart mommie, trying to avoid chemicals! You should avoid them in everything, including your home cleaning products, where they are incredibly toxic and carcinogenic!!!

Melaleuca and Nicole Miller products are safe all the time! I believe they are paraben free, as well, will have to research more on that. I know that we have a top lotion that will help keep the belly soft, and the moisturizers and sunblocks have always been chemical free.

Let me know if I can give you more information.

I use the Burt's Bees products during and after my pregnancy, and now I use them on my daughter as well. I found that Walmart now carries the line at a much cheaper cost than retail.

I see that you have several responses but I want to second the fact that ARBONNE is not only SAFE but actually tested by Dermatologists, Pediatricians and on humans!

I commend you on your concern because too many moms to be don't realize that everything you put on your body will get to major organs within 26 seconds. (Garlic in your toes will be tasted in about 10 min)

So do your research and if you need ingredient lists I can provide since ARBONNE gives full disclosure, hiding nothing- NO PARABENS.

PS Botanically based 100% but then Science and Technology to bring 100% safe!

Blessings,

D.
