Hi Ladies,
I just moved here and am trying to find a Pre K for my son, Jacob. He will be 5 in July, but needs another year before Kindergarten. I have called most church programs and they are full. I could put him in private pre K at Hyde Academy which I loved or Kids R Kids which I haven't visited yet, but sounds very nice also. I guess the question or problem I have is that I wasn't planning on the amount of money it costs to send him! I would love too, but with a new house and unknown bills coming in for utilities, I don't want to be too strapped. On the other hand, he is my youngest and this is the last year I will need to pay for school. Yeah! Any ideas or thoughts are very welcome. Have any of you had to bite the bullet and pay alot? I do really want him to be the super prepared for K next year. Thanks in advance for your thoughts.

What can I do next?

Have you tried Little Acres on Spot Road ###-###-####). They are a local daycare and I believe they have a fairly good pre-K. Cost is not outrageous either. My son goes there (although he is much younger) and loves it and all the women who work there seem to swoon over all the kids. Or, if you were willing to come a little farther south, and if you have not already contacted them, try Cumming First United Methodist Church. I have been in this community for 8 years and I consitently hear they have the best pre-K program.

Good luck.

Hi M.,
Welcome to Georgia! I made the move here 6 years ago from California and have loved it here. I had my kids at Christ the King Lutheran Preschool in Cumming---try seeing if they have a list you can be put on. (They are near Cumming Elementary). It's not GA Pre-K, but the fees are reasonable and it's a nice atmosphere with a loving staff. We did get my son (be 5 in Oct.) in a GA Pre-K class at Discovery Point on Sanders in Cumming. They may have a list too, but since it is a GA funded program, you only have to pay for their monthly food bill (less than $90/month). Worth a shot. You can also check out Good Shepherd Catholic Church. They have a great program (off Exit 16/GA 400 area). Good luck!

Hi M.,

You can research the free GA Pre-K program at the following site:
http://decal.state.ga.us/
It that site doesn't work for some reason then you can google "Bright from the start" and you should find the site.
There is an area where you can find all locations in your zip code. The good schools/daycares that have this program usually have a wait list/lottery system.
The earlier you inquire the better.

Good luck!

L.

Hi- you say north forsyth, but hyde is south? anyways, hyde just got sold to the same people that own crabapple academy and so maybe there have been changes. don't know anything about kids r kids, but there is an older daycare at sharon near the kroger and it is called klub kids. my middle child went there and so did several of my friends children. we were pleased, however my teacher, gina, is now working at hyde. klub kids has a ga pre-k (which did a much better job at preparing them for kindergarten, as my oldest went to a church pre-k and needed to catch up once he got to kindergarten.) IF you go to klub kids, you must insist on ms lourdes and ms elsa. they are the best teachers there, and i am not sure about the others. they most likely did their classes in the spring, but there might be a spot available. another place to look into would be carrington at windermere or the goddard school off old atlanta, but again, they will be pricey... good luck!

First I want to welcome you to Forsyth! I just moved here about 18 months ago from another part of town. My daughter will be turning 5 in Sept. too. So far, we just put our names on the waiting list at a few pre-K programs close to where we live. However, if we don't get in, I too would like to see my child in pre-K this year, but we hope to have one that is close to home. I know last year I considered going to one that is at a church on exit 16, so I may look into it again if we don't get into another school.

Hi M.,

My son is at Hyde Academy and will be in the private Pre-K program in the fall. I can't say enough about this school, it is great! All the teachers from Daves Creek Elem boast about how well prepared the kids are for kindergarten (those that come from Hyde). He is attending camp there now and just loves it.

Good luck.
