Pregnant - Pain in Stomach

I am 24 weeks pregnant with my second child. This pregnancy has been good, but I have symptoms that I didn't have with my first child. I know every pregnancy is different, but I just want to make sure everything's normal, and I feel silly calling my doctor every other day with a new question! =) So I'll just bug all of you instead. =) Anyway, my latest issue is pain in my lower stomach (below the belly button). It happens when I change positions, when I stand up or when I go for walks. I thought it was round ligament pain at first, but whenever I've had that it's just been a sharp pain that went away pretty quickly, and it was mostly just in my side. This new pain lasts for a while - like if I take my son for a walk, I usually feel some pain for the entire walk (usually 20 minutes or so). And if I'm sitting down, and stand up it hurts until I sit back down. Even if I'm sitting down and just lift up my leg to change positions it causes pain in my stomach, almost like my muscles are sore from a big workout or something - which hasn't happened in a very long time! =) So, any ideas, or is it just another annoying pregnancy pain? Thanks!!

What can I do next?

I had that exact same pain! it was awful, especially when you need to stand or walk for a length of time. I remembe almost passing out while grocery shoping. my doctor said it was because wear the babies head was lying .the farther along I got the worse it got. by 39 weeks i could barely make it off the couch. fortunatly I didnt get this till I was 37 weeks along, because there isnt anything they can except re position the baby (and my doctor says they dont like to do that) hang in there!

I had different types of pains with the round ligament pains in my 2nd pregnancy (if that makes any sense). Got really scared one night when I woke up & got a pain so bad that it stopped me in my tracks & brought me to tears. I called the answering service @ my OB's office & while waiting for the call back, layed down & the pain subsided (until I got up again).
My OB said that if the pain goes away when you lay down or change positions, then it is usually just a regular pregnancy pain. However, if the pain does not go away, no matter what you do, then it may be cause for concern & should be checked out.
You should still let your ob know about the pain anyways, just in case.
Good luck!

It sounds like normal pregnancy pain. The round ligament pain and your body stretching to accomodate your new baby inside! Congrats! Call your doctor if it intensifies or is really worrying you--- the doctors are here to serve you--no question is a stupid one. Its better to ask then to be in pain and worry about it---call and make sure its normal.

When I was 24 weeks pregnant (12 weeks ago) I pulled a stomach muscle, but that was above my belly button. Didn't think it would happen but it did, and it was a terrible almost burning pain that came and went. Now 36 weeks along I've managed to pull yet another muscle which is below my bellybutton. I chase around a 16 month old all day, and when I called and asked about it, the doctor just laughed and said "that will do it". If there is no bleeding, nothing protruding from your abdomen and it goes away... it's the joys of being pregnant (sarcasm). Best thing to do is soak in a nice bath, drink lots of water and of course rest as much as you can. BTW I call the doctor for everything... they are use to it and are glad to tell you if they are concerned or not. Don't feel bad or guilty for calling, they chose this profession ;) You sound fine to me, but don't take our word for it... Take your Doctors. Congrats and Good Luck!

Don't feel bad about calling your doctor , this is what he/she is paid for after all , to answer any Q's or concerns you have , but what you are describing sounds normal , with each and every pregnancy comes new pains or the same pains but worse , it's because everything is already softer and stretched from the previous pregnancy , just try and move slower and rest more often , hard I know when you have a toddler to look after , but nap time (if that still happens) is a perfect time for you to also rest , even if you feel you should tidy or cook etc , try and rest for at least half of the nap time.

I hope this helps

My second child just turned one, and I had round ligament pain almost the whole pregnancy that felt just like you described.
My doctor had me wrap my lower belly and I used a big back belt kind of thing.
They make something just for wrapping the belly, because it's so common.
I hope your pain isn't as bad as mine was, but the belt really helped.
Good luck and God Bless.

how far along are you ? The reason I'm asking is that one of my friends
Is 35 weeks and she started having pains like contractions and we timed
Them they were. Two minutes a part she went to the hospital and they stopped them but they told her she was softening getting ready for having her baby this is her second one also and your symptoms sounded like hers
My suggestion would be to go to your obgyn to get checked out

It sounds like the ligament pain, but it also sounds like the pain I had when I had a UTI after delivery. I didn't have any of the normal pain, and the doc actually thought it might be an appendicitis. It can't hurt to get it checked out. Remember, you are paying that doc a lot of money! :)
