Pregnant or Something Else

Ok I know I may be jumping the gun here but this is something that has not happened to me before. I am a little over a week late with my period. Feel like I am having pregnancy symptoms but have taken three tests and all say not pregnant. My question is how long do you wait to go see a doctor? With my daughter the test showed positive four days after my missed period.

What can I do next?

This website has a lot of great information about home pregnancy tests:
http://www.peeonastick.com/
I personally don't get a positive pregnancy test until AFTER my period is due -- happened with both pregnancies. So I would wait a week and then test again. With my second I already KNEW I was pregnant, but the test said negative. I didn't believe it (I'd been there before) and sure enough, a week later it was positive!
Good luck!

With my first, I had to take four tests before they would show positive (about ten days after my first missed), even though I just absolutely knew. I would give it another week and then see what happens.

Well you could have ovulated late and still be pregnant. Most pregnancy test detect HCG anymore at a level of 25! That is very low compared to with what it use to be. A level of 5 is what blood tests detect you have that level pretty much the day of implantation which can happen 6 to 10 days after ovulation. With that said most pregnancy tests can give you a faint positive up to 10 days after ovulation and most will give you a standard positive 14 days after ovulation. Like another person mentioned peeonastick.com has lots of great information about home pregnancy tests.

With that said if you feel you have symptoms but got a negative take a test again in 3 days. More than likely if you are pregnant it will come up as such. If it doesn't and you still haven't gotten your period and you feel like you are... go to the doctor. they will do a quantitive HCG test and they will know right then and there if you are. If you aren't they can give you something to jump start your period if you want or they will just tell you to wait it out and eventually you will get it back. Regardless you will know and if you are you can start getting that prenatal care that is so important.

I would wait 7 days and take another pregnancy test. I also did not get a "positive" until well after my period is due.

If you get another negative test in 7 days and still don't have your period, I would just relax. I personally would not go to the doctor until I had missed two periods, but that's just me. A missed period in and of itself is nothing to worry about, provided you are otherwise healthy, don't have a history of gynecological issues, or are not experiencing other symptoms.

A late/missed period can be caused by stress, a change in eating or sleeping habits, new medication/vitamins--really anything. If you've been blessed with very regular periods up until now--you are lucky! Also, a woman's cycle changes as she ages. Your body may be "resetting" itself, and maybe now you are going to have longer cycles.

I always say that Mother Nature is cruel for making period and pregnancy symptoms so similar. I am also waiting to see if I am pregnant and I have symptoms that could be both. I would call your DR's office and just ask. My clinic is always good at calling back and answering any question. Good luck!!
