I have a "yoga for pregnancy" dvd you can have. It absolutely helped me, especially when I was too lazy to walk! I felt so energized and strong after a session. I did it regularly especially when I started to get uncomfortable. It really seemed to alleviate aches and pains, plus I only gained 30 pounds.

I don't know if they have this type of program here but when I was preganant with my son I did a water aerobics class for preganant women. They would put a belt on you to keep you floating in the water then have a instructor show you various exercises. I really loved it because in the water it takes the pressure off your body from being preganant. It was sort of like getting a break. If you have sea sickness issues you may not like the class a few women felt the being in the water made them sick to their stomach. I personally never had a problem. Check out YMCA possibly for this type of class.

D.,

Congratulations on your babies! My sister and I are close in age, and we have always been great friends!

I agree that walking is a great exercise, especially if you have a nice place to walk with your stroller. I have become a huge fan of yoga. I started for the physical aspect, yet it is the spiritual aspect and the changes in my outlook on daily living that have really been fantastic. My seven-year-old likes doing yoga with me, as well as using something called "conscious breathing" for headache, taught by my yoga teacher. Yoga is a great workout that you can do for the rest of your life!

Be Well!

Hello D.,
I know that you have already responded to this post but I wanted to weigh in. I have 2 girls that are 13 months apart and found it very important to watch my weight with the second pregnancy. I found a really wonderful mommy and me yoga class that met 2 times a week. The babies laid around and played and the mommies did yoga to get back into shape after pregnancy. It is important to find an instructor that can modify certain poses for a student who is pregnant but starting yoga when your pregnant is the best time because your body is already more flexible so when you aren't pregnant any more you will remain more flexible than before. Walking was also my life saver. The women that i met through the yoga class were very helpful and got me out of the house. We would go for lunch after class once a week and meet to walk one day a week. I also tried to go to a prenatal yoga class once a week to nurture the pregnant side of me and spend some time around other pregnant women. Having children so close together can be very daunting but it is totally worth it in the end. My girls are now 3 and 4 and the can spend hours playing together! The first couple of years are rough but then it all gets so much better. Good luck and enjoy this time before baby comes it truly is precious and fleeting.
All the best,
J.

PS Yoga for Exercise in Cumming has a Postpartum class but I haven't ever been. I just know that they have a very warm community of women and give very personal attention.

As a mother of two and fitness instructor, i encourage you do do whatever motivates you, makes you happy, and does not compromist your comfort. I taught classes up until the day before i delivered my son b/c it's what i love to do.
studeis show that regular aerobic exercise mixed with moderate strength training will hlep you manage your weight gain during pregnancy, assisty your delivery, and speed your recovery time after delivery. the first thing you need to do is discuss any exercise routine with your dr.!!!!! advice from me and other women is great, but talk to your dr. first - remember you are not only thinking for yourself but your child. after you get the clear from him/her i would suggest taking group exercise classes - and notify the instructor before class begins. not b/c you are a health concern, but so they can show you any modifications you may need to make to protect your baby. as you progess your modifications will change.
drink lots of water - even when you are not thirsty, it helps to keep the baby cool even when your body temp. is elivated. also, if you don't already have one, get a heart rate monitor.
Have fun, enjoy your pregnancy and stay healthy.
if you have any more questions or concers i would love help.

I dont know of any pregnancy workout but with me ( My daughter was four months when I found out I was pregnant again) I did not gain near as much my second time because I was so busy chasing my oldest.

I was a walker and I started that between my first child and my second - there was a huge difference in the ease of delivery after I started walking, but I can't say that is the reason. I walked two and a half miles up until two weeks before my third one was born. Had to get up early since I had other little ones...

My daughter is expecting her second in a couple weeks...she has been walking and going to Curves.

When I was pregnant I drank loads of water and walked all the time. The walking also helps with labor pains and to shorten the legnth of labor. Good luck and congrats on soon new addition!

I did yoga my whole pregnancy and not only did it help with weight gain, but it taught me alot about inner concentration. When the time came for labor I was able to do it naturally using the breathing and relaxation I had learned and practiced in yoga. It also helps relax the baby as well as building strength and endurance for labor. Check around your area for prenatal yoga classes or simply an instructor who will help you modify your practice. Congratulations!

There isn't one perfect workout for a pregnant woman. When I was pregnant (and I've only been there one time), I did my usual exercise routine, just toning it down a notch. For instance, I would only lift 10-15 pounds instead of 25-30. I would do TONS of squats, leg exercises and stretches. And to repeat everyone else, WALK. I walked three miles a day. My labor was less than six hours, and when I started pushing it was over in 18 minutes. My doctor said that it was due in LARGE part to staying active during pregnancy. And when I went home from the hospital, I was wearing my pre-pregnancy clothes.

i agree with joy. i also have a 7 month old dauther and when i was pregnant with her, i walked everyday. i truley believed that it helped when i was in labor. because i had a natural childbirth and i really wasnt in pain and i think that had something to do with it.
good luck and congrats
