OK - I know that this is going to be waaayyy to much information but I need to know if anyone can give me some advice. Here goes & again I am sorry for all the details - I'm 3 months pregnant and have an odor down there. I talked to the doctor about it and he said it's part of the pregnancy, I have no infection or anything like that. I remember having the same issue at the very end of my pregnancy with my son but I'm only 3 months!!! I've tried shaving, not shaving, going camando, panty liners, baby powder nothing has been helping. I seem to be the only one that notices because when I denied my hubby sex I kinda had to explain. He said he had no clue. He wouldn't lie because he knows how I am. I hate this, I feel like a dirty pig! I am a clean person and take care of myself so this is actually making me very mad because I can't control it. Sorry for the details but I wanted to let you know what I'm going through. Thanks in advance for your advice.

What can I do next?

I just finished my 2nd pregnancy and I noticed the same thing both times. It went away almost immediately after their births.
Only a few more months to deal with it!

I think you notice your odor more when your pregnant because your hormones enhance your smelling ability. I am almost 8 weeks and I notice when I take my bra off, I can smell a little sweat from wearing a bra. None else notices it, I just think we are more aware of our natural odor. I have been taking a shower everyday even though I usually take one every other day unless it is really hot out. I think it is normal to be able to smell more than usual. I can't stand that my husband is using a different deodorant than usual.

your sense of smell is so powerful during pregnancy that it might be you are just more sensitive to normal body smells? I know that when i was pregnant I could smell everyones breath from across the room, and no one else could but me.

Could be your urine, but more likely it's just a change in the Ph in your vagina/uterus. I don't remember which but you either get more alkaline or acidic...either of those would cause you to notice a difference.

Don't be afraid of the details...it's all nature. My husband always knew when I was pregnant before the test told me so...I'll spare you those details, though, but I know Im not alone!

Oh yeah...just read Amy's response...good point! When I was pregnant there were some patients who I couldn't do the intake for because I would gag...not always because they smelled bad...it was just my sense of smell went into bloodhound mode!

Hey Kim

I usually don't respond if someone has already written what I was thinking but I want to mention this again. I am currently 5 1/2 month pregnant and the smell down there is ready to make me gag. I just started using the baby wipes after every pee break and guess what - no more smell. Whether its the pre-natal vitamins or whatever it's not like you can stop taking them. I would give the flushable wipes a try before doing anything drastic like changing your diet or stopping pills.
Hope this helps - thanks

I've noticed the same thing in 2 of my 4 pregnancies so it probably is normal as long as there isn't something else associated with it (then could be infection, etc). But, our senses are also heightened during pregnancy so that's probably why you noticed and your hubby never did!

That is how I knew I was pregnant the second time around. I was familiar with it the first time, and I knew before my test told me. Apparently, some get it and some don't. It's natural.

I'm currently 39 weeeks pregnant and had that with this pregnancy very early on like 2 months. But didn't with my DD. So I do beleive it is normal and you are probably the only one who can smell it as no one ever noticed mine either. I asked my sister and mom once. Because I was afraid people sitting next to me could smell it and they didn't notice it.

ok your the only one who smells it. Unless your mate is in the bathroom with you when you pee like right by you. I had the same thing. All you need to do is wash down there every day. do not use liners or pads unless needing for leakage. other than that thats all you can do. I know for a fact no one smells it but you. It will be ok to have sex too. just tell him you rather him not go down on you. You could also try wipes every time you go to the bathroom wipe with the cottenel disposable wipes. But really just wash once down there a day and you get to groosed out and he wants to have sex wash before you go to bed. It won't get better till baby is born.

I'm very sorry for you, but it isn't your fault.

To alleviate it, it might help to wash with water every time you use the toilet instead of using toilet paper. Toilet paper just wipes stuff, but doesn't really get you clean. Keep a large cup or container (we use a quart-size watering pot - what is normally used for plants) full of water (or fill it up right before you go, if you can wait that long) within easy reach of the toilet, and wash after "going bathroom" - pour the water with one hand, and scrub with the other (of course, make sure you wash front to back, just like when you wipe with TP for the same reason). You will easily be able to tell when you are clean (you won't be slimy-feeling any more). The smell should go away, and at the very least you will be able to figure out what it is - is it just the mucous your body secretes when your pregnant? is it leaky bladder? a combination? something else? You'll be able to figure it out, and then possibly do something about it. But, if there is just nothing to be done, at least you will be clean every time you go bathroom, and you won't feel like you are smelling.

Good luck, and Congratulations!

BTW - we went for a trip to India a few years ago, and TP was unknown in the parts we visited - they used water, as described above, so it's not such an un-heard-of thing. :)

Just a thought, but maybe you really don't smell as bad as you think and that it's more of a case of hightened smell. It happens for pregnant women and foods, so why not there???

Check with your doctor to see if it has to do with some of the vitamins you may be on during pregnancy. I know some vitamins can cause odor on the "way out". Don't stop taking your prenatals, but just an idea.

Have you tried not wearing underpants at night? That might help.

I agree with Cheryl C. Check with the doctor it may be the vitamins. I know that the vitamins that I am on now have a very pungent smell and taste. There are times when I get busy and forget to take them and I notice that my urine doesn't smell as strong when I haven't taken them. It could also be something that you are eating and drinking. Do you drink strong coffee? Sometimes certain coffees will leave the body with a pungent smell. Try drinking more water and maybe try using an antibacterial clear body wash like Dial when washing. The things we women go through:)

Hope this helps,

M.

Alfalfa helps with body odor, but you don't want synthetic alfalfa. My company manufactures the safest product better than organic which is safe to take while pregnant. I will give you some to try without purchasing if you are interested. My email is ____@____.com.
