Pregnancy Mask- Spots All over Face from Hormones

When I was pregnant with my first son I got several brown spots on my face (the Dr. called it a pregnancy mask caused by the hormones) . When I got pregnant with my second son it got a lot worse. I nursed both my kids till they were almost 2yrs. old. I stopped nursing a few months ago and it's not getting any better. In fact my Dr. said that when I start taking the birth control pill it will probably get worse. I use sunscreen everyday and in Dec. started using a cream my mom gave me that she was told would help with things like that. It's not working and it's really starting to bother me. It's really bad around my eyes and my make up isn't covering it. I've heard of a laser procedure that's supposed to get rid of things like this but heard that it's very expensive and doesn't always work. The dr. said there are prescription creams but they're very expensive and she didn't seem to think they would really work. I know I shouldn't be so vain about it, but it's really bothering me lately! Anybody have the same situation and have good luck with anything they tried? Thanks in advance for taking the time to respond!

I read that zinc supplements can help. You may want to look into it.

I don't have experience with this (although my friend had it, and btw, it did disappear with time and some peels i believe :)) but there is a good website that may have advice: www.beautypedia.com . Look under the heading Free Information and Skincare. Paula Begoun, aka the cosmetics cop, has good skincare advice.

My father used Porcelana to bleach out facial age spots. I think that there are several brands of cream that claim to bleach brown spots. I don't know if they work. My father was pleased with the Porcelana but I don't remember if it worked.

My sister had a horrible "case" of pregnancy mask. She did laser treatments and that helped a little but now she is using Revelage (sp?) from Arbonne. She seems really happy with the results!

I had a huge sun spot on my forehead and for some strange reason I tried some anti-wrinkle sample I'd gotten (this was a few years ago in my 20s) and it completely got rid of the spot! Not sure if this would work for you, and can't remember the brand now (maybe the brand doesn't really matter), but thought I would throw it out there. Good luck! Yes, we can wear our spots and stretch marks with pride, but we're mostly still vain, insecure women when it comes right down to it. : )

I know this isn't the answer that you want but it WILL fade over time. In the meantime it might help if you just think of them as the "badges" you earned by giving birth to your two precious children!!
Continue to protect your skin from the sun, use a good moisturizer and see what happens. You can also ask your doctor for the name of the medicine that he thought of prescribing and contact your insurance company to see what they would expect you to pay for your share if you did get it. That way you would know if you even want to consider it or not. Your doctor is right, those medicines are VERY expensive and sometimes they are not covered very well by insurance.
In the mean time, go to one of the makeup counters ( In Dillards, for instance) like MAC or Clinique, that offers complimentary makeovers. See what the experts have to suggest to cover the uneven skin tone. If they do something that you like the results of, then you will know what kind of makeup and what shade you need to help you out!!
