Pregnancy Cravings

Hi moms.. I need some help. I'm currently 15 weeks pregnant - and since becoming pregnant, I can't seem to eat much protein. All i crave is cold stuff - cereal, salads, fruit, some veggies (not a huge veggie fan), pasta salad, yogurt, cheese. But i can't bring myself to eat chicken (which is all I ever ate before getting pregnant), eggs (again - ate them all the time before), steak & beef - yuck. I crave tuna salad - but i can't eat that everyday and I can probably count on one hand how many times I've ate meat since finding out i'm pregnant. I do eat peanut butter with apples or crackers for a snack, so i'm gettng some protein - but not much.

Any ideas of ways to get more protein?

What can I do next?

For me, this was the same thing but change and went back to normal after the first trimester. Good luck to you.

Eat greek yogurt instead of regular = more protein.
Cottage cheese has lots of protein and is good with canned peaches or pears :)
Some cereals have a good amount of protein, plus you are having milk with it.
Would you eat some kind of chicken or sandwich meat in your salad? What about chopped up hard boiled egg in salad?
What about other kinds of fish or shrimp?

You are getting some protein from yogurt and cheese. Try cottage cheese, beans, chick peas, lentils.

Almonds/nuts, quinoa, beans-kidney beans are awesome, add to your salads, soups, wraps, tacos etc, tofu.

Smoothies with protein powder. I like Spiru-tein brand mixed in the blender with milk, juice, and fruit, and sometimes yogurt.

Try making a protein powder shake. I buy vanilla whey protein at the health food store. I blend 1 scoop with milk, a banana, 3 ice cubes and a teaspoon of coco.
You could also eat nuts.

Nuts have protine in them if you like nuts. But I agree with the others your best bet will probably be the shakes.

Good luck and God Bless!

Tofu is another option and can be eaten hot or cold, marinated or plain.

When you crave tuna, try skinless/boneless canned wild caught salmon. Trader Joe's has a great one that's inexpensive, but all grocery stores have this. Prepared like tuna salad it really tastes the same and doesn't have the mercury fears of tuna. Delish and better for you!

quinoa is a high protein grain and works well for salads, and can be eaten like rice. Also beans of any kind.

Beans are great!

My best friend could not stomach any type of meat during the 1st trimester, so she ate a lot of bean and cheese burritos, black bean salads, chili, and tostadas. good luck!

I would google veggie protien combinations (rice/beans, broccoli/rice). I sneak greek yogurt and hemp seeds (find online or health food stores) into my morning smoothies with blueberries and banna, that give me tons of protien to start the day. With eggs I went thru a time where soft boiled or fried made me gag, but if I scrambled them with cheese and spinach, I loved them.
Kashi came out with a cereal that claims to have as much protien as an egg, I would check that out. What about cold chicken salad sandwhich? Hiding the flavor/texture with bread, mayo, and spices?
I craved pastries, but I still ate smoothies and eggs, you can do it!
